i actually think women are stronger than men and could win weightlifting titles from men if it wasnt for sexist overgeneralizations. there is no limit to what they can do. they are equal...i mean better at everything. the idea that the genders are different, with different skillsets is a societal construct. in fact, if a woman tries hard enough, she can impregnate a man!
Hyperbole is really important when attempting to make cogent points about science. You are dominating this conversation.
i know. the real reason women dont play major college football is sexism. if we let them they would be out there booting kicks and catching TD's. its never happened because we males do not understand statistical outliers like ok awesome does.
At the risk of stirring up martin again I do have a serious question. If she were really setting the world on fire in practice this week and seriously impressing the coaches, with all the publicity surrounding her shouldn't we be hearing reports that she's for real coming from outside sources by now, instead of taking her word for it in the interviews she's given? Or is it just too soon to tell?
she isnt claiming to have done well in practice. her claim is that she isnt even putting kickoffs in the endzone. thats not good. i dont think her claim in interviews is that she is any good. she claims to have made a couple 50 yarders in practice. thats not that impressive or rare of a skill for kickers. i can tell you exactly how this will go. she will be politely thanked for her effort then told they are fine without her at kicker. in reality she will have shown at tryouts that she isnt close to being good enough and everyone there knew it, but played along to be polite and because she is really supersexy. she ultimately rides the fame to some sort of sportsgirl gig. we all pat ourselves on the back for playing along like she had any talent (relative to the men) whatsoever.
Depends, if she's kicking off from the 35 and her max distance is inside the 5, that ain't good. If she's trying to stick it in that area with a ton of hangtime on the ball for the coverage team to get downfield, that's better. She's implying she can hang with the guys. It seems like with as much attention as this has been given by national media, if that were true it would have been verified by now by independent sources without her having to say anything. I tend to agree, but I gave the Saints the same odds of ever winning a SB.
As a football fan, I’d be surprised if Mo Isom makes the LSU football team, but as an LSU fan, I sure am glad that Mo is a TIGER. LSU is bigger than any individual, but Mo sure has made LSU bigger and better by being a Tiger. When Ms. Isom leaves LSU, she will have benefited from her LSU experience, but you had better believe that LSU will have benefited as well. I don’t know if she has been given any preferences in being allowed to tryout for the team, but she is not an ordinary student and has already generated and will continue to generate great exposure for LSU which in and of itself, makes sense for LSU to not just allow her to try out, but to encourage her. As fans, can any of us say that we are not grateful to Ms. Isom? Gosh, just go to Youtube and search for “meaux vs” --- Her work speaks for itself. Ms. Isom is a great ambassador for LSU and I wish her the best.
Very thoughtful and well-stated. However, what bothers me somewhat about this whole situation is that she could have been a great ambassador for the university by standing on her own merits with what she accomplished in the classroom, as a soocer star at LSU, and the media work she's done on the VS. video series and elsewhere, as well as the fact that her personal story is very compelling. But instead, she decided to draw attention to herself with a PR stunt to boost her visibility. Maybe she honestly thinks she has what it takes to make the team, maybe not. Regardless, she knew the media circus that would accompany her tryout, and she's fully embraced the benefits. In the end the coaches will decide if Mo gives us a better chance to win than her competition. If so, I'll trust the judgment of the coaching staff. As for the PR benefiting the university, I'm really not so sure anymore. The focus of the publicity is not how LSU is pursuing redemption and preparing for an NC run. It's on the novelty of a girl trying out for a major football program. Maybe it will inspire some girls to attend LSU, but it's not likely that this will convince blue chip football recruits to commit to the program.
