Not a chance with the way he's blown up in football this year. J. Mitchell played both sports, but he'll definitely be our starting safety next year. If he wasn't doing well -- maybe. He's a relief pitcher and I don't think he'll ever be a full-time starter in baseball.
Remember, Jones started in 8 games to start the season. He was "supposed" to start again after football ended, but Landry/Mahtook took his job. With Mitchell gone, that leaves a starting spot up for grabs in the outfield, and Jones has been very open that he likes baseball more than football.
I highly doubt that Jones would lose his position as the starting free safety if he misses spring practice to focus on baseball. He will be a senior, with three years of significant experience on the football team.
Miles will make the call and that most likely means Jones will not miss Spring practice. Jones is on a football scholarship, not baseball.
