The sports media in Dallas has been ripping into Mo this season, but I have to think his injury is a problem for him. I hope he can turn it around. This is nothing new with the Cowboys, though. They capped on Marcus Spears every one of the 9 or so seasons he was in Dallas.
Playing with a bum shoulder definitely effects his ability to jam receivers at the line. Add that to him playing in a system that doesn't fit his skill set, and you have a recipe for disaster. And don't doubt the truism of that statement. A few years ago, the Saints signed Jason David as a free agent cornerback away from Indianapolis. He had flourished in the Tampa 2 with the Colts and we all knew he was the answer to our prayers at corner. But the Saints were primarily a m2m secondary, and we quickly learned he was too small, too slow, and had no instincts for man coverage, issues that were hidden in the T2.
I worried about Mo ever since Dallas moved up to get him. After all, Jerry is the worst talent evaluator in the NFL. Or maybe his picks just don't fit his system. Right Rob?
Hey I like the Saints too. So it pained me to see Sean hire him. We loved him at first and things started good. So we overlooked the disorganization, ignored that his defenses tended to get worse instead of improve, and looked the other way when he had Demarcus covering receivers down the field. But last year he lost me when he got a penalty for going onto the field to protest a questionable call. Maybe things will be different in NO instead of Oakland, Cleveland and Dallas. Or more likely, you are joking....
Totally agree that the injuries may be affecting him. Not just the shoulder but he has been hurt a lot in two years. I sincerely hope he recovers and this is the problem. And I don't remember Jason David but understand your point of transition from zone to man. I just wonder how much it goes in reverse because the problem I see with Mo is his coverage skills. Finally, here is a good article to remind everyone how he played last year in man coverage under Ryan. Check out the Philly game too for further reminders... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...s-cowboys-be-concerned-about-morris-claiborne
@TigerSnarl Wow, that article further made my point for me. I had no idea he had so many injury issues last year. Missed all of the OTA's and and most of training camp with injuries? And then expect him to just show up and be "the next Deion Sanders" (Dallas' scout evaluation of him, and yes, I think that was stretching it quite a bit)? That's a lot to ask of any rookie. But that's the Cowboys; they could screw up a free lunch.
I don't know what they expected from a rookie corner who played in a league dominated by the run. Hell Patrick Peterson got abused by Megatron a few weeks ago, and Mo is playing hurt. He's still better than any other player in Dallas' secondary. 2 seasons and they change from a 3-4 to a 4-3 Tampa 2. Not to mention this league is geared solely to the offense. I'm hoping it was more of them trying to get him healthy. He made a great play on that interception. A little Louisiana on Louisiana crime, Monroe on New Orleans.
