I'd rather have Manny, and it's not even close. Giving up that 7 mill alone is what Jason Bay is worth. Anything on top of that is giving chit away. Boston had a team option for the next 2 seasons. It would have been up to them if he walked or not.
I'd rather Manny, too if he were playing. Not if he were taking almost 6 seconds to get from home to first. This was weighing on the team... big-time. And it's time to move on. They lost 5 of 6 in very unimpressive fashion against the contenders of the AL in the last 2 series with this hanging over their heads.
Not if Bay produces like manny in the postseason. then its a decent deal. odds of that happening? 26.3% id never have traded him either. not til after this season.
If Boston picks up that team option back in May, or April, or even March when he asked them too, he would never have gotten p!ssed like he did. None of this would be hanging over the teams head, and they could have gotten a better trade for him. The team brought this on themselves. Instead they gave up WAY to much for a guy they could have bought from Pittsburgh without even noticing the money left their wallet. Plus by having picked up next year's option, you give yourself at least one more season before he ends up helping your biggest rival beat you.
As a Yankee fan I'd like to welcome Manny to the National League and Bay to the AL. The Yankee's are now a major playa for the AL East*. *Provided the Angels don't wipe the floor with us like they did the Bosox. Yanks have 10 games left against the Halos.
Or provided the Angels don't wipe the floor with ya'll like they do to ya'll every time you two meet in the playoffs.
