He usually hits around .260-.280 with 20-27 hrs and 80-110 rbi. Nothing mind boggling. But certainly isn't hurting the club in any way. He's a good player. Just not a great player. They have 30 other guys in baseball who do what he does... and some. I'm curious to see how he fares in a pennant race as he has never played a meaningful game past July... ever.
i like the dodgers side here. laroche couldnt even beat out blake dewitt and has been a top prospect for 4 years. the sox came out ok if bay can handle the boston spotlight.
He's a career .282 hitter (only hit below it once I think) that will give you 30 HR, 100 runs, and 100 RBI. He also has a fantastic eye which leads to his very good OBP (.375ish), and he can steal some bases--although not like he used to. Those guys don't grow on trees. He's a very good player.
he has struck out 120+ times four years in a row and 140+ times three years in a row. And is on the same track this year. I am not trying to slight the dude. I would take him on my team anyday. I just think that if he is your best player, then your team will be in the same boat as . . . THE PIRATES.
I would just put up with the Hall of Famer's bullchit. Really, they downgrade the line-up AND pay for the better player that is leaving and will be a free agent (meaning he'll sign with the Yankees ) at the end of the season. A hall of famer PLUS a pitcher PLUS another outfielder PLUS 7 million dollars goes out the door, and only Jason Bay comes back???? WTF?!!? Boston took it up the azz on this one.
What would you rather have: Bay or the 2 prospects? The $7M is irrelevant because the Sox have all the money in the world. Manny would have been gone after the season anyway, so it's really Bay or the 2 prospects. Their hands were quite a bit tied in the situation.
