Boston may end up paying roughly $15 million per

    Let's say that's a 5 year deal

    $75 million + $51 million posting fee = $126 million over 5 years (nearly $25 million a year).

Looks like Boston may have their version of A-Rod (yes, intended to be a negative comment).

maybe boston plans to not sign matsusaka and just let him return to japan, and return his posting fee. that way they have barred him from going to the yankees and it costs them nothing. maybe they never intended to sign him at all, and that is why they made such an absurd posting fee bid.

boras is saying he should get 100 million, because that is what free agents of his talent/age make. but that is not taking into accout two things:

    1. d-mat has no experience in the major leagues

    2. he is not really a free agent, there is no market competition for him. he can either sign with the red sox, or not sign with any mlb team at all. so he is not a free agent at all, boras is portaying it incorrectly.

forcing this stupid posting fee for rights to negotiate really screws matsusaka in the ass because the team pays so much for his rights that they have less to offer him in the contract. so his japanese team gets rich at his expense, if he signs at all. the team gets tons of money, and player is forced into a monopoly where one team has his exclusive rights.

hideo nomo was successful til the umpire realized after a few weeks his windup was a continuous balk. i guess he learned a new delivery which helped in his comeback. Certainly not as effective.

i remember seeing a few vids of that gyro pitch a couple years ago. I should have posted but im sure youtube has tons of it. its pretty awesome but im not certain its really that different or effective in MLB.

nope this is theo's prize after catching hell for not making any moves before last season and even this one. He is hellbent on acquiring this regardless his true worth to the team. hes gonna sign him for a sick amount.

As far as overpaying and the waste of money, I agree with nlmd and yourself. Its monopoly money they easily make up in tv revenues and everything else you never know about. thats becoming more obvious each year.

a couple of weeks ago the orioles signed jamie walker to a $12 mill contract (lefty). no one even knows who that scrub is. mamas dont let your babies grow up to be righties.

gagne just signed with the rangers for 8 mill 1 yr. he'll be on the dl within a month. Mets will probably get their otsuka, who is much better anyhow.

what was the guy before he took steroids? a 30+ yr old middle reliever who couldnt sniff the royals roster throwing mid 80s? during steroids, 70+ straight saves, upper 90s, insane.

since off roids, he's back to reality. I did enjoy the ride though.

well, let me ask you this: lets say you are the red sox, and you do not want to sign the dude, why would you not bid something outrageous for the rights and then not sign him? you lose nothing, and no one else has a chance at the player. it is a win-win.

if the bosox do intend to sign him, then the yankees should have enacted my plan of the mega-bid non-sign. i cant see a downside.

i think they should repost the player and exclude the sox from bidding again if he does not sign. that would prevent teams from blocking each other.

you would need a commissioner with at least half a brain to enact this. selig is too clueless to have any positive impact on baseball minus the great wildcard which he gets credit for. it almost negates all his idiocy in between but not quite.
