Mizzou commit Andy Bauer gets LSU offer

Highly coveted offensive lineman Andy Bauer (St. Louis/De Smet) still has two more varsity seasons to play, but he already has a big decision to make.

After verbally committing to Missouri in April, Bauer has picked up offers from college football’s heavyweights of last season, Alabama and LSU. The 2014 lineman was offered by LSU coach Les Miles early Wednesday afternoon.

The offer, No. 19 overall for Bauer, is making some of his followers ask whether his commitment with Missouri is still intact. Bauer said nothing has changed, but the offers are intriguing.

“They’re still on top,” Bauer said of Missouri. “Right now, I’m just exploring my options and doing what my coach, my dad and I think what’s best for me. At the end of the day, Mizzou’s the school that I’ve always grown up cheering for, and they’re always going to be one of my top schools.”

Bauer also has offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Florida State and a host of other BCS championship contenders. The versatile, 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive lineman plays tackle for De Smet but can play guard, tackle or center on the college level.

Bauer said the LSU offer came after a conversation with his primary recruiting contact, offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Greg Studrawa.

“The last time Coach Studrawa and I talked, he told me to call him around noon on Wednesday, and he’d get me in touch with Coach Miles,” Bauer said. “He put me on, and that’s when he told me I had an offer. I have an offer now from Alabama and LSU. They’re the faces of college football right now.

“It’s pretty overwhelming and humbling at the same time. These coaches see me and watch me play, and for them to take time out to say that they want me really means a lot.”

Bauer said he is looking to schedule a visit and take in a game at Missouri, LSU and Alabama when the season starts. Aside from that, Bauer has been preparing for the 2012 season with workouts at his school with teammates.
