I was very happy to see Coach O get the opportunity. I wanted to see him do well because that means LSU is doing well, plus he is a fellow Cajun. I expected to see more fire however the product was far better than expected. The team that played the previous 4 games would have been in a nail biter last night 27-24 or something like that. The efficiency and focus was evident from the first drive. The fire that we Tiger fans have come to love was there. All I ever asked to see was improvements, Coach O provided that. Will things stay perfect? Of course not but no doubt we are on the right path to patching up all the holes in the ship. Practice makes perfect. There is new life for LSU football!
Ben Hogan used to say "practice makes permanent, if you practice with bad technique you'll be real good at playing bad." We probably have been doing this over the last few years if players are getting worn out. It was evident in the way we played something wrong was happening in the way we prepared for victory.
All of these are true but you have to keep in mind that you are comparing them to what was one of the worst passing attacks in the country. 216 is better than we used to compile, but it's still not anything good. It might even be below average for teams not running the flexbone. Did it work to keep the defense more honest than usual? Of course. But that's not saying much, and the safeties were still creeping in the box in the second half. There's more to the story than just 216.
