And therein lies the problem. He has no freaking idea what to do with it. An antiquated offense, a head that is full of water and will not allow him to see what is in front of his face and say "well, that shit isn't working it may be time to do something different" He simply cannot, will not, won't even think about doing this. This is exactly why they lose those all important 2.5 that keeps them from the big picture.
I'll say this about les....#1 He has the all time wins record at LSU. #2 He has the prestigious bowl record at LSU. #3 He has a national title. #4 Les has put more players into the NFL than any SEC coach & ranks 2nd nationally for putting players in the NFL, USC has put only 1 more. #5 Les has beat Saban a few times.
Les will go down as a top coach. Hes earned it. Its just you never have reassurance he knows whats up which makes things uneasy after a loss. What I'd like is someone like Sean Payton who instills confidence despite the outcome on the field. You know he's tuned in to every aspect of the game and manages it on the fly like few others while making those corrections after a loss. Sean Paytons, however, are few and far between. So, Les it is!
Sometimes a good whipping is good for you. Makes you look at every aspect and see what all needs correcting. Also knocks you down from your "big head". From experience, I am sure Les and his coaches have looked at the film closely. They saw some missed tackles that would have stopped drives. They saw players out of position on D that are because they didn't get the call or they need more schooling. They saw some missed blocking assignments that might have kept a drive going. They saw open receivers that our QB didn't get to, for whatever reason. And I am sure there are calls that were made that the coaches would like to have back (see State goal line stand). Maybe this is just what we needed. Maybe.
Les said Beckwith should have gotten more playing time. "on the verge of playing a significant role with our defense." thats a plus. not a plus- on the gameplan: "The calls were the correct calls but we have to communicate with the players better" "As you go to a season ... there is the requirement of a position and the multi faceted pieces that will really play out over time." ??? But yet on the d--"We are not going to change personnel ... those are quality young men" "It is everybody's want to get back on track" It seems he wasnt happy with Welter finally but doesnt look like Beckwith will start just yet. Just more pt.
