It is important we establish the run game early and DO NOT abandon it. MSU has a good D'line and the only way to win this game, IMO, is to get into their depth. Once those big boys get tired, Tigers will roll. I think the Oline will step up big.
I think the chief will have the boys ready for that gimmick offense. He has always done well against zone read offenses. They may bend... Watch the red zone.
I think this is going to be a real tough game for us. The question is ---- Is Miss State as good or better than Wiskey? I think this is a fair question. State is going to load the box Saturday night and make Jennings read, react and make a throw. I know this is what I would do. Load the box. Stuff our run. And blitz the young QB. I believe our defense is legit. So we're going to keep the points low on their end. So the next questions are, Can we get a defensive turnover on the State side of the field? Set us up with the short field? Can we get a defensive score? Pick 6 or scoop and score? Or can our Special Teams return a kick/punt for a score? Or at least get us into position to score? We've haven't blocked a punt/kick in a while. It's time we blocked one. There are 3 things you can say about Les Miles' teams almost every year --- #1 We're usually really stout on Defense #2 Our special teams are usually as good as anyone in the country #3 We are going to run the football right at you
I was listening to Matt Mascona on my way home yesterday and he made some interesting points about Dak Prescott -- He has had some really good games against the lower level competition, but has underperformed against the Stronger opposition. Matt rattled off stats for a bunch of his games, and it appeared to be correct. I'm interested to see how well Prescott plays against us Saturday night.
Our defense is always very good at making ANY quarterback look average at best (minus the WV game a few years ago). If history serves as an indicator, both for our D and Prescott, then MSU offense is in for a long night.
I'm an admitted sunshine pumper. I'm always optimistic, but I think our secondary is the best in college football, and Chavis will have us ready.
