It's somewhat apples and oranges. Meyer has the luxury of having one of the best players to ever play the college game at QB behind a stout, veteran OL, as well as one of the best defenses in the country. He's also benefited substantially from the decline of the Florida State and Miami programs to snag the cream of the crop from a top football state when it comes to recruiting. He can afford to take chances with talented underclassmen. LSU, on the other hand, does not have many of these luxuries. We have a struggling OL and a QB going through his growing pains prematurely and dealing with his own problems and limitations. People forget that Jefferson was a 3rd string QB just last year. We all talk about how much talent we have, and we do have it at skill positions, but we simply do not have much in the trenches, on either side of the line, and it's hurting us. Given how disastrous Lee's development was, I can't fault Miles for taking it easy with Shep's QB progression. I absolutely agree, however, that he should be using playmakers like Shep whenever possible, in innovative ways that keeps the D guessing. Hell, even when he's in and everyone knows it's an option, they still have trouble stopping him. Shep is getting it done on the field in the capacity he's been asked to serve, ball security issues notwithstanding. I made the comment because I do think it's possible to discuss and criticize the decisions made by coaches, using rational arguments, and not be considered a closet fan of another school. I do agree that Meyer would be using Shep a lot more. I also agree that our coaching staff seems to be holding back with a player who could be a huge contributor right now. But I also recognize there could be legitimate reasons for why the coaches are being so cautious. BTW, I just can't bring myself to root for Bama, UF or any other SEC team unless the outcome benefits us.
How many fumbles has Shep lost on a running play this year? Oh, and by the way...JJ fumbled on that last drive, too...and threw a pick to end the first half. - Thanks anyway, Richard.
The fact is that you are mad! Many people are mad! When you get mad you attack! Your method of attack is based on 2 things QB play and the fact a freshman is not playing enough. You guys are kidding about a true freshman!!! :tigereye:
Ive said that I dont feel Shepard is ready to play QB. Like Ive been saying though he needs touches from WR and RB, with a few at QB as well. I dont like his ball security but he is a spark plug and this team is in drastic need of a spark.
Just wanted to put in my couple of cents. Strange how much worse (so to speak) a coach Meyer is when his superstar QB is hurt. We stopped Florida big time. The one TD they got was a really severe missed holding call. I did not see Meyer do anything that wowed me in this game. Any coach with a completely green QB with a lack of leadership skills suffers the same issues. Meyer is getting a taste of it with Tebow ailing. 50+ point games are no longer in the cards for Fla. When the gravy train ends for Meyer, and he no longer has the class of athletes he has now. Or when most of his defense is gone next year, his coaching skill will be much more readable. On the other hand, Miles drives me crazy with his lack of use of the athletes we have.:geauxtige PLEASE! and GEAUX:milesmic:
No doubt about the athletes, drives me crazy, too. But, just for arguments sake, didn't UF also win the NC with Chris Leak? I'm not a fan of Meyer as a person; I think he certainly made himself look like a jerkoff with the whole Tennessee back and forth. But he has seemingly been able to find ways to get the most out of his talent. LSU has not, though Miles has admitted as much.
