After all the talk about Lee, Lafell, Byrd, the Defense. One of our main problems this year is leadership. We dont have that Hester type that will say not in my house or on my team, will a guy run an interception back for a touchdown. We dont have that Dorsey type that says, stfu, we will stop them on 3rd and 3. Or get your head out of your ass, secondary and shut the receivers down. Lack of leadership is glaring this year. I thought a few guys would have stepped up this year, but one is looking to the other. Nobody has taken that role and relished it. Next year our Tigers have to get back to discipline.
I think that Russell Shepard is the perfect cat to come in and lead this team on offense. Chris Davenport shows signs of that as well. However, they are true freshmen. On defense, I'd look to Rahim Alem, Jai Eugene, Peterson, and Cutrera.
This is HUGE imo. In past years, we've had a guy like that at every level of the defense lavalais->spears->williams->dorsey->??? bradie->turner->ali->??? hunt->laron->steltz->???
A good question was brought up on last weeks Geaux Show. Can you name the team captains? Which, went to speculation other then Colt David.
Couldn't agree more. Which is why I'm glad when won a NC last year. With the loss of the seniors, I'm fine with taking a year or two to rebuild ourselves. Every team goes through a period where they have to have new leaders step up. We've been very fortunate that it seems like every year someone else takes the lead. I'm OK with the thought that it might take a year or two to be able to have solid leaders again. I wish it wasn't that way, but I won't get greedy. We've already picked up 2 NC's in 4 years. :geaux:
I can see Peterson being a real leader in the near future; it just seems that our potential leaders are the younger guys. And I saw Marcus Spears on the list of DL leaders of years past, but the '04 team was also "fat and happy" after a NC, and leadership was hard to find that year, as well. It's difficult to keep up that intensity level year in and year out. But it'll be back.
completely agree. That guys just seems to have an energy that can be infectious. I ca easily see him doing the job that Beckwith was supposed to have this year.
There was a thread on this in the spring or summer, noting loss of leadership as a concern. Helms was mentioned as a possible leader on offense. I agree, I don't think we are where we were last year with Dorsey and Hester gone. We miss those 7 NFL players...
i think this is the biggest problem this team has faces all year. i've told some in the chat that i think this team has had a :crystal: hangover all year, as if they could snap their fingers and their opponents would shudder, groan, and fall apart. we sho nuff needs us some leadership...
