CParso, I'd just like to join the chorus of thank yous -- why subscribe to Rivals or Scout with you around?

Regarding the "too many DBs" point -- if there is any position to "over recruit" it might be that. As CP mentioned, many can play special teams, and as Tigerbnd05 said, some of the larger safeties can perhaps become linebackers.

Im assuming the supposed 'too short' DBs are Jones, Brooks, and Williams from last year. Each is supposed to be around 5'11" which isnt at all too short to play DB. The ideal height these days is 6'1" but that isnt much difference. I agree though, DBs are difficult to come by so recruit as many as you can. Having good cover guys allows us to blitz guys like Jones and LBs in nickle and dime packages.

I also believe some of those guys could be used as return men. Lawd knows we need a lot of help in that department. Id really like to see Brooks get a shot, he is supposed to be pretty electrifying.

I wonder if the reason we are taking so many DBs is because the coaches want those 6'-6'1" 190-210 fast guys to defend the spread offenses. They have the moves and speed to defend the slot receivers but the size to tackle RBs and mobile QBs. We could have used a couple more DBs this past season.

Thats a good point. With so many teams running a spread O these days you need a lot of good DBs. Also good point about the running QBs. To beat Florida we will need great DB play and tackling.

First off, great job Parso. You're the best. No doubt. Bet that.

I believe LSU will finish very very strong. And I also thinks that means we sign at LEAST 28. We may be signing 29 or 30, with all the talk that we have 3-4 players that may not qualify. We still have a couple of greyshirts to give out as well, unfortunately for those kids.

Thats too bad that PJ couldnt have made it in at spring because that would have freed up one more scholarship, and therefor one less greyshirt.

A comment about height. As a pediatrician, I can tell you that it is rare for any male to grow much after age 17 (women actually plateau at about 14). Many will say they do, or did, but the reality is that most (over 98%) men plateau at 17 y/o. The are a few very late bloomers, and those guys are usually either playing in the NBA, or are on some weirdo of medical science show b/c they have a pituitary tumor and are still growing at 32 y/o.

Just thought I would share some factual information on our little rumor board here. I would hope coaches who have been doing this for years and years would not be expecting much change in height of anyone upon entrance into college - again there are a few very late bloomers, but that is <2% of the totals, and they should know this just from experience.

I personally think 5'11" is not too short for a DB. Heck, the Saints signature offseason signee last year from Indy was a 5'9" DB, albeit he probably IS too short and can't play man-to-man, LOL.

After reading this, I started feeling a bit better about Molton. I think there was a thread asking where he fit in but I did a search & couldn't find it. Maybe it didn't make the transition.

I haven't been quite sure what to make of Molton, and have gone back & forth on him as a commit. But I've been reading more about him & have watched his film a couple times now & think he should definitely be a 4 star (although he won't be).

One comparison I've read compares him to LaFell, and I think that is very accurate. Their measurables are similar & he makes really good cuts. He looks wide open in his highlights & it's not just because of speed, it is his route running. I think we've got our next great bubble screen player too.

He's a bit raw, but I remember reading about Jordan Jefferson vs DC Jefferson in camp, and Sonny was saying that it was tough to tell who was better because JJ had Molton as his WR & he tore it up at our camp. We offered very quickly, so our coaches do not view him as a back-up option in any way.

Perhaps someone could clarify something for me. If Brown does not qualify, he has to go the JUCO route for two years. But if he partially qualifies I understand he can go to a prep school and could be eligible to enroll at LSU in June. Is that correct?
