Doctor Says Bills’ Everett Will Walk Again

Two days after he was paralyzed during a game, and one day after doctors described his condition as potentially life-threatening, Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett was moving his arms and legs Tuesday.
The doctor who performed surgery on Everett, Andrew Cappuccino, said Everett’s condition had “improved.”

Another doctor, who has consulted with Cappuccino, said Tuesday that Everett could eventually walk out of the hospital.

“Kevin Everett is moving his arms and legs, his legs stronger than his arms,” said the consulting doctor, the neurosurgeon Barth Green. “He’s moving them both to a point, to a degree that he will end up walking. He will walk out of the hospital.”

On Monday afternoon, Cappuccino, an orthopedic spinal surgeon, described Everett’s chances of a complete recovery as “unlikely” and between 5 and 10 percent.

The next day, however, Green said he had spoken to Cappuccino and described him as “elated.”

the doctor who performed the surgery ran a saline solution that "iced" everett down immediately upon arrival in order to reduce swelling of the spinal cord. got his body temp down to 92 degrees in a hypothermic state, not only saving his life but enabling him to possibly walk again.

looks like a breakthrough in spinal cord injuries.

yeah i wasnt sure if this was common procedure at first:

In a report Tuesday evening, Buffalo's WIVB-TV quoted Cappuccino as saying: "We may be witnessing a minor miracle."

"We've been doing a protocol on humans and having similar experiences for many months now," Green said. "But this is the first time I'm aware of that the doctor was with the patient when he was injured and the hypothermia was started within minutes of the injury. We know the earlier it's started, the better."

"To me, it's like putting the first man on the moon or splitting the atom. We've shown that if the right treatment is given to people who have a catastrophic injury that they could walk away from it."

Thats incredible. After hearing the news yesterday it didnt sound good for walking again and even possibly living. And now this....wow

Pretty sure it was just the great medical guys but yeah. Great news, this really had me sad. I know football is over but it would be great to see him walking again.

Lets not even get into that, just didn't like how you made it seem like a fact. Anyway this a topic about a young man who is getting better, Lets just shy away from any of that.
