Wow. Just wow. Definitely a warning to everybody on the field -- players and coaches alike.

Interesting that he got his first hit in his first MLB at-bat against Jon Garland.

At least he was doing what he loved.

RIP and prayers to friends, family and teammates

i know he has no reason to, but can you imagine how bad the guy who hit the ball has to feel?

I remember that he played, and pretty well, for Round Rock for a few years, first in AA and then back when the team went to AAA. He leaves small children and a pregnant wife. So sad.

Makes me even more nervous about aluminum bats. This is gonna happen in the college or high school game sooner or later.

    That is awful.

Unfortunately, you knew it was coming. It scares me watching a foul ball rocket into the stands.

Pretty soon, the base coaches will be wearing batting helmets.

That's what I was going to post. Seems like I remember players having to coach first base in Little league and having to wear one.

He played HS ball in San Antonio with a friend of mine. Jeff told me when you talk of the great guys who play the game, Coolbaugh should be included. He was confident enough about himself that he would take the time to be helpful and encouraging to others.

"Pretty soon" is almost here. MLB has decided that base coaches will wear head protection next season. Makes sense. I see no downside to this.

Players have been wearing helmets forever. Interesting thing is, they apparently weren't required by rule until 1971.
