That too, but mainly because they know Miles will run the ball no matter what. It's what he does. The DC of the opposing team's life is made that much easier and is very thankful for that.
Until we can prove that we can effectively pound it up the middle against anyone but tackle dummies, it wont be an effective smoke screen...
As much as everyone here wants to see Les turn into the 2009 version of fun-n-gun Spurrier, we cannot completely abandon the run for one reason: short yardage situations. See what happened to the Saints last year when the passing game sputtered and there was no one to run between the tackles. If you pass all the time on 3rd and 1-2, corners and safeties are gonna creep up on pass protection just like they would against the run. Screens and passes to the flat won't work every time, especially with an inconsistent QB. In these situations you have to run the ball at times to keep the defense honest and move the chains. FWIW, I don't think Les has any intention of completely ridding the offense of power running play calls, but another football fundamental is taking what the defense gives you, and there were signs of that against State.
Sounds like the empty threat of an increasingly desperate coach. Bet Richt, Meyer and Saban are shaking in fear. There's a good reason LM is not regarded very highly by his peers.
Very significant.. but that's a big if. Against Miss St on his way into the locker room at halftime.. didn't he say that we're going to just keep doing what we're doing? Next offensive play we threw a PA bomb for a TD :hihi: The way our teams built right now.. I think we need to be moving the pocket and throwing at least 60% of the time. It's our strength.. might as well use it.
Where does that come from? I've surely never heard that said of Miles about their opinion of him. I bet they dam sure don't look forward to seeing him on the other side of the field and in this game that's all the "regard" I'd need. Who the heck are Saban & Meyer to be giving of any "regard" anyway, those scum bastards. As for as "desperate" I'm sure at 4-0 he's not feeling too "desperate" right now and that's not disreguarding the fact that we have some things we need to work on but so does Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, Miami, USC, Auburn, Oklahoma, off the top of my head and of the "big programs"...well, Auburn as a "big program" may be a stretch but ya know. lol
The offense will continue to sputter no matter what Miles says at his luncheon. The coaches don't yet have enough confidence in Jefferson to read defenses and check to alternate plays. Miles admitted to a reporter that JJ doesn't know much of the playbook. No one on offense can get into a rhythm when they get to the line of scrimmage, stop, look to the sideline, get the play signaled in, wait for JJ to scream the play to the O-linemen (giving plenty of time for opposing D's to adjust), and then hike the ball. From a mentality standpoint alone, the offense must feel like a bunch of babies. "Here you go little Tigers. That's right. Goo-goo, ga-ga. Oh, look how cute you are. Now here's your play. That's right. Goo-goo, ga-ga. Now run up the middle for half a yard. That's right, you cutsie little Tigers." It's a sad display, really. I think Ryen Russillo said it best today on ESPN Radio: "I don't know who the 4th best team in the nation is. But I know LSU isn't it." :helmet:
