I think many people don't understand the policy. The policy doesn't mean that the player loses the scholarship and LSU will no longer consider said player for a scholarship. It means that since the player is not a "guarantee" that LSU may have to decide to offer that spot to someone else. In other words, it can't hurt LSU. The only way that spot gets filled with someone else is if LSU decides that it's in the best interest to do so...meaning someone better comes along who's willing to commit now, or someone as good who's willing to commit now (which Luther is obviously not ready to do) or if they just think Luther is no longer a sure thing so they go to the Plan B list to protect themselves. It's not like Miles is going to get on the phone, call Davis and say, since you took a visit, LSU is no longer an option. Worst case is he'll get on the phone and tell Luther that he's got players who want Luther's spot so he needs to make a decision by a certain deadline (all the while recruiting him). If he thinks Luther is worth it, he might let it ride all the way to signing day. The bottom line is Miles will do what's in the best interest of LSU.
I'm not hating on Davis. I'm wondering if he gave the paper the negative quotes on satan at the suggestion of someone else, to cover his unofficial visit to Bama. Was he coached to say what he did to the press? If not, why say those bad things about satan and go see him for a visit the following weekend. In the normal world, that does not make sense. I would not be mad at Davis, I'd be mad at the person who "coached" him into using the negative comments about satan to cover up his unofficial visit.
Looking at this from another perspective... Let's assume a player gives his verbal to a school, visits and then the school takes his scholly away. He finds himself on signing day, sending his papers into schools he's talked to, but they no longer have a spot on the roster. Just a thought... Why does the thought that the writer may have excercised a little journalistic freedom when reporting this seemingly be a scenario that is completely dismissed?
I got an email but cant post the entire thing because I think its from a bammer pay site. Here is some of the info Re: Luther Davis He said his visit to Alabama "went great". He also said "words cant express the love that everyone there showed me" He went on to say "The opportunity for me is better there than anywhere else". While he said he was still an LSU commit he also said he may take another visit to Aubarn or FSU but "My decision will be between LSU and Alabama though". He also commented on how honest Satan was and said "he is a guy who looks you straight in the eye and tells you the truth" There you have it. I still think the home pull will be enough to keep Davis in the fold. He is a very good player and I would rather not lose him to Satan. However, I think we can put away the "recruits arent buying into Sabans bullchit" line once and for all. Like I said before, Satan should not be underestimated. :cuss:
I'd like to see what Mike S. of TigerBait has to say or if he interviewed Davis since the weekend. Sonny at Tigerrag refused to grant him an interview after being lied to so many times, and I don't blame him one bit. Davis has some serious issues, as does his mother.
It appears you have a conception that there is an ethical standard present with the print media today. There isn't, hasn't been since the late 90's when these "journalist" realized no matter what they do they are going to be a day or two behind because of the readily available news we can get on the 'net. And, for what it is worth, the reason for the term [sic] is is does give journalist the freedom to change quotes...however, it isn't used very often in today's times. I'm not making excuses for the manner in which Davis behaved. Neither am I putting blame fully on the shoulders of Mike S. in a way to implicate him for skewing the actual conversation. I am saying there is more to this story that meets the eye. FWIW, after a few conversations last night I'm more inclined to believe the Davis signature is something we won't know until signing day...and, I'm beginning to lean to thinking we have a better shot at him than I first thought.
I completely agree with this. The dude sounds like he has issues, to say the very least. The lying is a big red flag, IMO, sounds like someone who would have future discipline probs. I also don't see what the "controversy" is about. If he shops around, then LSU continues to shop around. It's not that complicated. And in the end, he can decide if he wants to be a Tiger or Tiger Bait. It's that simple.
I tend to agree here. He was involved with saying some things "That were not true" about USC to Joe McKnight to sway him to LSU. Didn't think much of it at the time, obviously, but looking at the big picture, he might bring some extra baggage. If that's the case, I'd rather cut him loose now.
I agree with both of you. We dont need Luther with the class of Defensive Lineman we are bringing in and the players waiting for their chance. I know for a fact that Jason Peters is a player who was brought up right by his parents and Catholic High. He has great grades and a team player. If we need him to move to O-line for any reason he is not going to ask questions, he will do anything the team needs him to do to help the team. That's the kind of players LSU has been and needs to bring in. :geauxtige
