everyone is quick to get on dan but he is right on the money about this one. There are even admins here that do it. :dis:
hope so. Might piss me off more though because I will wonder why we waited till now? It would do us good to come out strong, and it will do Miles rep wonders. Its always been " what have you done lately?" we need to roast some pig to get our Mo Jo back. :geauxtige
You didn't mention he is catholic, again. With his pull maybe mass could come to him. Think of the time that would save.
The latest rumor is Stoops to ND. I think the media just keeps picking names until they actually get one right. Or not.
i heard that yesterday. i dont see why they would want big game bob. of course, the bobster might be ready to get out of norman.
They will take BGB just to get to a big game and be happy for a couple of years. Then winning one will kick in. Then the results will decide how long he stays.:hihi:
No!!!!!! No offense, but I don't really think Les Miles is really that good- he seems like he's more lucky than good as that Auburn game exemplified. Obviously, with a name like this, I'm still a Weis supporter and believe he should be given at least another season. 2007 and 2008 was really unfair because of the sizable talent gap due to Willingham's laziness. And, of course, I'm disappointed with this season. Even the most optimistic ND fans really didn't believe that this year's team was going to be an all-around great team. Instead, our hopes were laid on what we thought was going to be an easy schedule- not the easiest schedule but very easy compared to ND's past brutal schedules. But, all those teams ended up being a lot better than anybody expected. Even then, its not like ND was getting destroyed in any of these games like SC did with their losses. All those games were really, really close and could have gone either way but ND ended up getting the bad breaks. ND could just as easily be undefeated this season. But, sometimes, its better to be lucky than good and ND was not lucky this year. ND is improving and getting better each year since the nadir of that 2007 season and next year was supposed to be the year where it was going to click. It seems like such a shame to fire Weis now when ND is on the verge of something so great. Instead of fielding a really great team next year, firing Weis would gut that team. If Weis is fired, then Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate leave for the NFL, Manti Te'o goes on his two year Mormon mission, we lose all the 5 star recruits Weis would have brought in, etc...
As pessimistic as I am about ND if Weis is fired, ND is still in a much, much better place after Weis so ND doesn't need to be so desperate to pick up Miles. Unlike Willingham, Weis has done an amazing job in recruiting every year. Even if you see all those players leave because Weis leaves, there's still going to be a sizable amount of talent left for somebody to build on. Stoops, Meyer, Saban, Kelly, Patterson, etc.. will all be interested this time. If ND was going after an LSU coach, I'd much rather have Saban over Miles. Willingham played too much golf and didn't do enough recruiting; he left ND in shambles for the next guy. That's why ND had so much trouble finding a coach last time. All the potential candidates looked at the ND program, and realized that they couldn't win with the talent they inherited. Not only did Willingham do such a bad job that he got fired but he left such a mess that the next coach would get fired as well. Everybody understood that 2007 was going to be reallly, really bad. And, things were supposed to be bad in 2005 and 2006 even though Weis ended up coaching up ND to those two BCS bowl games. In 2005, those ESPN 'experts' predicted that ND was going to lose five of its first six games. That's why Urban Meyer chose Florida over ND even though he had been a assistant coach at ND under Lou Holtz and he has said that ND was his dream job. He looked at the talent Zook had accumulated in Florida and Willingham had accumulated in ND, and he chose Florida because of that. Meyer understood that in order for ND to make up for that talent gap, ND would need to make academic exceptions and bring in JUCO players. But, the ND officials refused and so Meyer went to Florida.
Adam Shefter is saying that it looks like Bob Stoops is the favorite to be the next coach at ND with both parties very interested in making this happen and that there was a meeting Sunday between a ND search firm and Stoop's representative. Stoops fits all the criteria that Swarbick, ND's AD, laid out in the press conference as to what ND was looking for. If ND picks up Stoops, it should thank Weis for rebuilding that program and fixing up the mess Willingham left.
