I'd just like to see more play action. We finally ran one and connected on a 50+yard TD. I cannot for the life of me figure out how you fashion yourself as a run-oriented team, be this wildly successful at it, but NOT use play fakes for passing. With our running game we are tailor made for play fakes. Especially considering our receivers do not run the best routes and are not 6-5 230 lb freaks of nature who need no separation. Our guys need separation most of the time...and need help getting it.

You also need sufficient pocket protection to pull off play action, doesn't work very well when an end or linebacker is about to light Mett up when he turns to throw. There was a play against Towson where we had 7 people in to block a 4-man rush and a defender still shot the gap. We're not doing much of anything in the passing game until that gets fixed.

Did he mean plays or play book? We all got stuff that we are waiting to spring at that just right moment. Doubt if any team has a play book just lying around, unless it has crowton's name on it.

That's the point of the fake. If the end or linebacker hesitates just a bit over who has the ball, that throws everything the defense wants to do out of sync. They're no longer coming full bore at Mett. They're peeking at the back to see if he has the ball. That's exactly what happened on the long TD pass. Also removes the predictability from our scheme.

Every team keeps adding plays all season so that they have weapons that no one has prepared for. I can only assume that more play-action passes will be forthcoming. It's a natural for a team with a good running game. But i can see that they are getting Metteneberger reps in the pocket and on the rollout against the OOC competition. And he needs work in both areas.

Miles needs to find his Les-ticles again. He needs to become the riverboat gambling, "Mad Hatter." Thats when he is at his best. He needs to quit trying to be a contemporary coach to prove his pundits wrong. Id much rather lose trying to win, rather than lose trying not to lose.

I bet I know what it is...A West Coast-type of offense. Short, quick passes. Some three-step drops to mask the under-performing OLine. Mett is amazing at those quick-hitters, and it's hard as shit to defend (see LSU vs Oregon St 2004, LSU vs WVU 2011). That would be just what the doctor ordered for this offense. It would keep the defense on their heels, and force them to keep from crowding the box.
