THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: I once dreamed that Paul Finebaum was a credible sports journalist, however, I woke up and figured out that he's nothing but a sh@t stirrer !
so miles is penalized because he was preceded by a good coach but guys like tressel, meyer, and stoops get total credit for winning a NC because the coaches before them recruited decent talent but didn't coach 'em up??? i'm not making an argument against those coaches, i'm making one for miles and the double standard that resides in people's perception.
I tend to agree with gumbo. It's not the same situation in most people's minds due to what Meyer did at Utah before arriving at Florida. He was already perceived as someone that could coach and quite high profile at the time. Miles, while having good success at OSU, wasn't turning heads like Meyer was. It's all perception. Also, the fact that Florida uses a very clever offensive attack and blew almost everyone off the field this year, plays into perception as well. While Miles has had great success at LSU, he has won by the skin of his teeth on many occasions. Going 7-5 the year following the final departure of "Saban's recruits" didn't help that perception. I think to really kick the critics, Miles has to put together a season of pure dominance. By the way, those aren't my beliefs on Miles, I'm already convinced the man can coach.
