Thats what XC says: He went to LSU to play for Nick Saban, and was stunned when the coach left for the NFL. Carter said that Les Miles, Saban's replacement, never liked the fact that he ran track and had to miss spring practice. ........ "I felt like there was an injustice on the other side with my playing time," Carter said. "The football coaches didn't approve of me running track. Saban had no problem with me running track, but (Miles) punished me by not being out there in football. Luckily, I had track." http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009904020333 Sounds like sour grapes to me.
I would say it's sour grapes because Trindon Holliday and Bennie Brazell seemed to have no problems from Miles. Also, look at Chad Jones and Jared Mitchell playing baseball. Now, I could see where Miles was probably negative towards X Carter, as he was around and involved in several of the RP incidents. So, perhaps, the two had "words" during that time, after he was no longer with the team. Or the university at all, for that matter.
i started to say. that doesnt match the attitude we see with holliday and chad jones being two sport athletes. and that is not a new attitude we see at lsu. clm was very accomodating to two sport athletes while at oklahoma state. from what i have seen, he has always worked with other coaches to make sure a players schedule is being juggled the best it can be. maybe it has more to do with xman being a negative influence on other players (rp comes to mind). edit: i have to type faster. stacey beat me to saying it all!
Miles has had no problems with the other dual athletes as stated in the previous post. Carter's problem was that he was a track guy that simply couldn't play football.
As evidenced by kneeling on the one-inch line on a KO return during the '04 UGA game. No football sense.
actually, miles had a problem with this initially so x-man is likely being truthful. then miles adapted upon better advice from those around him.
So, what was the actual story there? Because, as far as I could tell, X-man wasn't much of a football player.
miles just wanted more time for his players so the track thing bothered him. he then (likely) realized it would hurt him in the long run with recruiting as well as bad publicity. so he was probably a little pissy with xman at first who was likely the sensitive type. no big deal. all speculative of course but partly how i remember it.
More than likely Miles said you suck at football and if you ever want to even dream about a football career you might want to spend more time at practice.
