He said three things that bothered me (paraphrases):

    "Our defense shows relentless effort."

    - He must not be watching the same team I am.

When asked about counteracting Bama's gameplan, Miles said, "We're gonna keep doing what we've been doing, hopefully better execution."

    - The defensive schemes, the pass happiness, etc. hasn't worked. It's time to cram the ball down their throats in order to set up the pass/play action. Run straight at 'em.

    "I don't read books." (not a paraphrase)

    - facepalm

Something that concerned me was him opening up about voting. I understand the importance of tomorrow's election but dog gonnit, I'd leave that to someone else. After doing my civic duty and voting, I'd be hell bent over spending every ounce of time, energy, etc. preparing for Bama. He's the coach though, not me.

    Meh, that doesn't bother me.

He's watching the same team - he just actually knows what he's seeing, unlike any of us.

Would you really use a word like relentless to describe our defense? Miles is pulling a Bush; he spins like a top and you should never take what he says publicly as the gospel or even necessarily representative of his own opinion.

I'd say that from at times it appears our intensity is not what it should be, but how much of that is them just being out of position - it's tough to tell.

And when people complain about our scheme - they have no idea what our scheme is. They don't know if people are in the schemed position or not because they don't know where they are supposed to be.

So let's just be honest. No one here knows a quarter as much about football as Miles (or any good D1 coach), and even if you did - unless you know what call our coaches make, it is impossible to know whether it was executed correctly or not.

When Miles says our players are making mistakes & not executing, I find that very easy to believe.

On the other hand, it is easy to see if our play is getting results or not.

Exactly. It's either bad coaching/bad scheme and good effort, or it's good coaching/good scheme and poor effort. This team obviously doesn't have both.

It's entirely possible to have fine coaching & scheming, good effort from the players, and a poor result due to player mistakes.
