Exactly, if its just one bad call then fine, but its been a whole season chocked full of horrible calls and non calls. Should he have been an ass, no, he should have gotten up there, and said something classy but TRUE. It also gets the media talking about how Mike Slime can't handle the truth like Tom Cruise.
imo, this needs to be handled by the ad's and presidents of the sec schools. i know y'all are getting tired of me saying it, but the little dictator slive needs to be overthown. he is doing nothing but hurting the reputation of the sec by not only condoning the incompetence (at best) of the refs, but by trying to intimidate the critics.
First of all, you guys have a great forum here. And I understand this comment may not be apples to apples, but challenging the refs works in other sports. The caviat is that he or she is correct, which in this case Miles would've been. Baseball - the mgr that comes out and speaks about the strike zone normally gets those calls the next game Basketball - see Phil Jackson It doesn't happen much in football, but I've seen many of shows (where players/coaches wore microphones) and were constantly working the officials for calls and pointing out things the other team was doing to watch out for. The refs never turn around and smite them for it.
yeah because they can talk to the refs face the face. on this call he was at the mercy of some guy in a booth.
I knew he wouldn't say much about it because like most coaches they want their players to focus on the task at hand and that is LA Tech at this time and focusing on the things that we can control. Send the tapes in and hope they get in corrected in the future.
While the image of CLM going off on Slive is fun to imagine...just as it's fun to imagine a gump meltdown if CLM goes to Michigan and Saban comes back here...the reality was it was never going to happen. It's just not CLM's style to call the refs out. His infamous 'press conference' before the SECCG was out of the ordinary, and I think the only reason it happened was because he thought it was the best interest of the team to put the rumors to rest. In this case, I honestly don't think it's in the best interest of the team for CLM to become a vocal part of the controversy or to be suspended by Slive. It could have the effect of keeping the team's focus on the unfairness of last week instead of on the next opponent. The story is already getting national attention...EVERYONE, from posters on UT boards who had a thread about the fix being in during the game to guys on national shows KNOW we were robbed of a legitimate chance to win the game. Hell, even the poll voters know. The story is already big without a CLM rant and subsequent suspension distracting the team. Plus, CLM is usually one to do his talking on the field. I know I wanted him to say more before last year's Chicken Bowl when Johnson was complaining about having to play us. Instead of ripping into him verbally, CLM let lose the hounds, so to speak, in the off-season's most dominant bowl performance. We don't know what he's saying or doing behind the scenes. But I think it's telling that the first thing out of his mouth when asked about the call wasn't 'no comment' or something in stereotypical CLM speak...the first thing he noted was concern over his player having to live with knowing he made the play yet having it not count. I'll bet he's using the events of last weekend to motivate the hell out of this team. We might not be able to 'show' Slive as directly as we taught Johnson to shut his mouth and show a little respect, but I'll be shocked if we don't see a fired up team the rest of the season. It might be the latent sunshine pumper in me thinking that, but I'll bet good money CLM isn't saying 'oh well, we have to trust the guys in the booth' in the locker room. And I think it will pay dividends this year...and next year. I wouldn't want to be the teams facing us next...especially if Bama or UF fall before the SECCG (which isn't out of the question). Give me long-term gains over a short-term buzz any day.
I mentioned in another thread that Miles was unlikely to rip the officials. He is not like CUM or Baby Kiffin, he as too much class to pull that one off. I'm sure he discussed it with the players and they stand 100% behind him.
