All of our problems are not with defense guys.

when you put 9 guys in the box to stop the run it gives your offense a unique opportunity to throw deep.

The way to stop 9 in the box is to burn them deep a couple of times because then they cant just sit in the running lanes.

That is why we are struggling early in the games because crowton is playing right into their hands.

By the time jefferson got in there they knew we had to pass and were coming all out in rush.

I am not sure crowton is a qb developer either.

It is pretty simple. If the other team is playing off your receivers then short passing game. If they are jamming them run some crossing routes and try some deep routes.

If they are blitzing use the tight end across the middle and some quick in routes.

This is really a simple game but you have to execute and have the right plan ready for what the defense is gonna do.

And have a qb able to see what is happenning.

And if you have the right attitude you influence pursuit and run some misdirection plays.

The succes of the option depends on a few key factors.

The qb must wait till the last second to pitch off the de or he will have time to string out the play.

It must be run to the wide side of the field in most cases to give the defense more field to cover.

the running back must be able to know when to put on the burners around end or when to cut up field to get the most yardage out of the play.

We do none of these well.

If your gonna have the option in the playbook run it right or dont call it.

We only have 1 running back with the speed to get outside and that is murphy. Holliday has speed but doesnt know the first thing about being a running back. Scott is a between the tackle straight upfield runner.

Keiland williams has been wasted. I dont get why we cant have williams and scott in the same backfield.

We are missing an opportunity to put stress on a defense having to defend the whole field.

    Thats my 2 cents.

Can't argue with those points, but this situation is this:
    1. Freshman QBs
    2. Young secondary, but senior leadership on D-line and part of the LB corps.

Problems with #1 are expected, even though they're bigger than anticipated, but huge problems with #2 have completely blindsided us. Given the relative experience levels, I have to make a much bigger deal out of the failure of the defense to help out young struggling QBs than those QBs being unable to make big plays.

Totally agree with the offensive concerns. On defense, tackling has been a problem, and not only has the defense not gotten better, I think they deteriorated as the season progressed. Harry Coleman is probably our best tackler, he hits hard and wraps up nicely, but he has been sloppy the last 2 games. Effort, confidence, coaching?

I saw Peterson make a tackle at or behind the line of scrimmage and get up doing what looked like a "gator chop." The next play, he got burned for about 20 yds. The "next play" he got burned for 20/25. From then on, it seemed that every tackle he made was from behind. If he is the best corner, this must have just been a bad game for him.

Miles has sang the same tune every week and things havent changed. If anything he is losing the team more each week. Its not just the coaching though the players have come up short as well and arent fighting like their opponents. Its a team game, players and coaches. Both have had a down year. Its obvious we need personel and coaching changes. Will Miles do the right thing? Replaces the coaches who need to be changed and put the players in who should be in? The rest of this year and early next year will be very, very pivitol IMO on the future of LSU. The talent is here, but the discipline isnt. The right players arent in the game and the schemes and adjustments stink. Also the players need to step up, we need leaders to man up and demand better performance. LSU just lacks the fight this year. This team is better than their record. Miles is a great guy, I just hope he does the right thing and turn this back around.

I have to disagree with the Patrick Peterson assessment.

He had good coverage on the TD drive but sometimes you just have to give credit to the other team for making some great plays.

The qb put it exactly where it had to be and made great throws.

Peterson had a very bad game yesterday. He is right there though with Hawkins as our best CB. All the tools are there to be a superstar. He just got beat quite a few times yesterday. I think he isnt getting enough of a bump but has the strength. Its a growing process. Another thing to consider is our S play is horrendous. There is never any help from whoever is back there. In part we need more DBs out there. When the QB is that accurate something is wrong. Plus no pass rush. Peterson had an off game but its not just him. Deion Sanders, the greatest cover corner ever couldnt cover a WR all day if theres no rush.

I agree with this post. The talent is there, but the discipline is lacking. IMO if the current coaching staff had kept RP on the roster he would be in Angola by now. They don't seem to command the respect of the players.:nope::nope:

I definitely don't think he had a great game by any means, however he is a true freshman corner that got zero help over the top from his safties. He is gonna be a superstar.

    Excellent points.

I don't understand, though (maybe because I never played organized football), (1) why does this team have so much trouble tackling?; (2) why is there such a lack of discipline?

Regarding the tackling, is it laziness or just plain not finishing up plays? These guys knew how to tackle last year; I assume any defensive player knows how to tackle. Why the problems with this? It was especially frustrating vs Ole Miss seeing their players literally dragging our guys 5 or more yards on what seemed to be a regular basis.

Regarding discipline, and I'm talking mainly about the defense, is it that there is no respect for the co-D coordinator system? Even if this is the case, it reflects poorly on Miles, and I have trouble understanding why the players would adopt such an attitude, especially coming off the National Championship.
