And to add to that you had the guys like Brad Smalling and Damien James that were both "5-star" recruits that turned out to be busts. James was supposed to be the next Charles Woodsen, and he got kicked off the team Perrilloux-style. Smalling actually earned multiple varsity lettermans for LSU, but was never the insane beast he was in high school.
Saban cannot be counted on to speak the truth or honor a contract. We've already learned our lesson. He's a good coach, but not the only one. Les has outdone Nick's record at LSU and he . . . ain't . . .going . . . nowhere.
Yes, but the class goes to Les. There were recruits that decommitted when Nick left. The ones that stayed were coming to LSU anyway not coming to play for Nick. Les added his own to it including a high school All American quarterback who was NOT interested in playing for Nick.
Saban coached LSU to the most humiliating loss to Georgia in LSU History. Saban's last team at LSU got beat down 16-45 @ Georgia in 2004. How in the hell did that happen? Here are all the losses LSU had to Georgia in history... who stands out as the biggest loser? 2004 -- 29 pts (16-45) -- Saban!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1948 -- 22 pts (0-22) 1991 -- 21 pts (10-31) 2005 -- 20 pts (14-34) 1947 -- 16 pts (19-35) 1952 -- 17 pts (14-27) 1978 -- 14 pts (17-24) 2008 -- 14 pts (38-52) 1979 -- 7 pts (14-21) 1949 -- 7 pts (0-7) 1999 -- 1 pt (22-23) 1998 -- 1 pt (27-28)
i agree clm is a better human being than saban but i also believe, without a doubt, that saban is a better coach and recruiter. no question. just look at the turnaround in the program (ours and alabama's) once saban came on board. oh how i wish it weren't true. even the most skeptical fan has to be a little (or a lot) weary of alabama. florida came into the season as the defending national champs and the heavy favorites to repeat since they lost few players, but now a lot of people think alabama is the best team in the land. they come to play every week no matter the opposition. do i think we can beat them...sure. we either need to hang around until the end or pounch on them early and give them their first gut check of the year (which we haven't done to date). however, if alabama takes an early commanding (14 points or more) lead it will be us who will be in unfamiliar territory. i'm sure it's only a matter of time (probably the florida game) until shepard throws the ball or lines up as something other than quarterback but up to now there has been no mystery as to what play will be run when he comes into the game. and i really like randle. seemed when lafell and dickson were missing passes in the crunch, it was randle coming up with some sweet catches. our potential is incredible, it's calling the right plays at the right time. also, up to now the option has sucked. seems jj runs too deep and doesn't fake well most of the time. a single opposing player shouldn't routinely be able to handle both player on the option.
What a fun read this thread is. LSU folks sure make a case why they like Miles better. I'm happy you have him. As a Bama fan, I'm also happy Saban's at Bama. Even more important, as a Bama fan, I'm glad Saban is happy at Bama. I understand that's something other school fan bases can't accept, hoping he will jump ship is something Bama rivals seem to need to cling to. I hope Miles sticks around at LSU a long time, I expect Saban will at Bama. One difference I can't help but notice...LSU fans seem to put a lot of hope in wishing Saban would leave Bama. On the other hand, Bama fans generally don't care who coaches at LSU. We've got our coach, we're happy with him. All the effort LSU fans put into explaining why Miles is as good a coach as Saban, all these many years after Saban left LSU, says it all. If he really was, you wouldn't feel like you need to keep spelling it out.
Our coach has won multiple trophies at LSU. Our last coach won multiple trophies at LSU. Your coach still hasn't brought home a championship at Bama. Go home and cry about it.
