Man I love Les Miles.... See if you can make sense of this..... “I promise you when it comes to the challenge of keeping that trophy, that's something that we want to have happen,” Miles said Monday. “I can also tell you that the ‘Boot’ kind of reminds me of the shape of our state. I can tell you that a boot is also a piece of clothing worn on the foot. The key is to not be given the boot”
Roughly translated, thats: "Yes, we obviously want to keep that trophy here at LSU where it belongs. It's clear that we call it the boot because the shape of the two states form what seems to be a boot that would be worn on a foot... And to all of you that wanted me fired earlier in the season I have but one retort, How ya like me now, b!tches?" I think that about sums it up.
That's a great analysis. Bottom line is even though he wants to keep the boot, he doesn't want to get the boot, and has conquered all the criticisms of the fan base that wanted to shove a boot where the sun don't shine. Now hopefully should we win the boot, and we win our bowl, he doesn't give us the boot. As is evident by this very forum, many of the biggest Miles critics have altered their opinion of him, and I think he may have regained the confidence of a restless fan base.
i can really see how the guy gets hatcheted so much when you take things out of context. the question was "what does the words 'the boot' mean to you?" so he talked about the trophy but in an attempt at levity and also humor talked about literal meanings of the word. so he mentioned them being made out of leather and them being clothing etc. admittedly the exchange does not translate to print that well but all the press knew what he was doing.
