Re: MIles: "We all have to do some soul searching" Would you rather he say that he's happy only winning 8-9 games every year from here on out?
Re: MIles: "We all have to do some soul searching" That is exactly what he and many others would like. Because that would mean our tigers would do bad. That's a wet dream scenario for those people. They relish in seeing our tigers fail.
Would rather hear "This is unacceptable!", but if you accept mediocrity, I would then understand your rebuttal ... just saying
Overall, a good article. I would like for someone to ask him about our lack of physcial play. I just don't think we played with any physical intensity.
Exactly. Why do we want our coach saying we were worse than our record, which is, by the way, an assinine comment. You ARE your record. Every team has close calls. Do we take away Alabama's win over Tennessee because they almost lost? Of course not. But our LSU "fans" want to do that to any and all of our close calls.
Unfortunately, for our fans winning is no longer satisfactorily, too many expect total domination. Sometimes I'm guilty of this too and have to catch my head.
Just sounds like he's making excuses. There are coaches out there who wouldn't be trying to put the positive spin to make his mistakes somehow seem not that bad.
to play devil's advocate here: miles was pondering (aloud, i might add,) how close LSU was to a national championship without bringing up the (more probable) likelihood of a 7-6 record. i know, i know... miles is keeping things positive here... but we know how he operates. i think that until he proves to me otherwise, i'm not going to be giving miles & co the benefit of any more of my doubt. when you read his retrospect of the season, does it not make you want to puke? i sure as hell hope he's more straight-forward with his team than he is with the media, but i tend to keep the opinion that miles isn't showing his poker face... i call a spade a spade. methinks the guy we hear talking about the team is the same guy that's talking to the team. hopefully miles knows that this season was terrible, because he sure as hell doesn't give me much confidence to believe he does based on how he generally responds to the public. the thing i like about miles is the fact that he says what's on his mind and he's unapologetic about it -- i guess that can be translated as "stubbornness," as well. many, many, many coaches downplay their team's success. it's called "buttering up" your opponent so that no matter if you win or lose, you still look good. look at hardass coaches like bear bryant, or charlie mclendon, or mack brown, or joe paterno, or butch davis, or even skip bertman, they all utilize(d) similar tactics. it's not going to send a negative message to the team or recruits if you're being honest. you guys aren't giving the recruits and players much credit -- i'm sure they're aware of the way LSU has been playing this season. in the grand scheme of all that is LSU football, rankings and wins/losses are irrelevant, and they should not cover up the fact that LSU was atrocious on offense this season. no one can doubt that, and no one can try to twist it to make it look less ugly than it is. sorry, but it's UGLY. and stacey, i'm sorry my post had to be attached to your's, i don't want it to look like i'm always attacking what you're saying. just adding to it.
