I'm very sorry to hear about Mike's health situation. These icons of our schools mean a lot to us. Thoughts are with the LSU family.
Get ready for an even bigger shit show when we search for Mike VII. The Advocate already has a story about the friendly progressives at the Humane Society saying no "reputable" shelter would ever sell a tiger to LSU.
I think I posted something about this back when they 1st found out that Mike was sick but I'm not sure. I do remember reading about it and the place where they got Mike from I believe has been shut down. Unfortunately I think they are right and it will be very difficult to replace him.
Lost my dog to cancer several years back as well. I despise this disease. It's sad to hear that Mike is in this bad of shape. I can remember when he got to LSU and how excited everyone was to meet him.
First off, sad news about Mike VI. But it infuriates me to hear that animal rights groups would oppose LSU getting another tiger. There are so many big cat sanctuaries around and my family has visited several. It is a shame that people illegally get big cats as pets and then they end up in sanctuaries that struggle for money and are overcrowded. None of them could treat a tiger like we treat Mike. Any true animal lover would recognize that being picked as Mike VII would be like winning the Powerball for a tiger.
I'm not sure we should even get another live Tiger. I know that's an unpopular stance but Tigers aren't dogs. They aren't out there everywhere, they are endangered, and it seems the only place you can get one are from sketchy places. If we do business with these sketchy places we are giving them incentive to get more Tigers. I don't know, I love Mike, I love the tradition, hell I was at Skip's baseball camp at 12 years old when one of the Mike's escaped from that round jail cell they used to hold him in. Maybe it's just time. I'm not saying we shouldn't have one, I'm just saying that it needs to be considered that they are endangered. I know Mike is probably taken better care of than any Tiger on the planet.
Weed isn't on the endangered species list and no I don't get it from sketchy places. The last time I got any type of marijuana it was from a dispensary in California, but I only got to sample a few of the edibles because I have drug tests and my wife ate them all. It's been a very long time since I have actually smoked.
