actually hes always been well-read to an extent. in the 80s when he was rolling over guys he would quote all kinds of books but of course, miss the overall meaning or wrongly paraphrase an excerpt. he'd go from seemingly being very intelligent then all of a sudden ruining it with something way out of context. that brain of his is always spinning. it just never slows down enough to complete a rational thought. long ago we were watching him fight on hbo and in the postfight interview after he knocked out razor ruddock i believe. Larry merchant on the mic doing the interview when Mike says, Oh man he hit me so hard, so hard, it was like a fuccking mule kick. Pardon my french. the look on larry merchants face was priceless. everyone in the room was quiet for about 10 seconds, then when it finally sunk in everyone cracked up laughing. it was just another mike tyson moment. i always liked this one: "One morning I woke up and found my favorite pigeon, Julius, had died I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honor him. I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. All kidding aside, in a way I feel sorry for Tyson. If Cus Damato had lived I wonder if he could have kept him on the right path and / or gotten him the help he needed. I find it very odd that many people who are gifted athletically have other, sometimes even bigger hand ups.
