Don't be surprised if you don't see much of Mike the Tiger being carted around the field much this season. For the games he has been able to attend, he hasn't seemed to be very interested in what's going on in his surroundings. 2theadvocate.com | News | Cautious Mike the Tiger may sit out some games — Baton Rouge, LA
BRETT! oh no you di'nt! i havent had my diet dp yet this morning and did not need to see that! :hihi: but it wont be the same not having a mike in the stadium. that cat let winning the lottery and winning the good life go to his head. someone needs to tell him he still needs to a bit of work now and then.
Perhaps its time to scrap the 1940's era trailer that Mike rides in and replace it with a new one with tempered glass sides, so that it seems less like a small dark cage to Mike. It would let fans see him better, too. Leave it parked in his habitat, so that he identifies it as his. Put his favorite treat only in the trailer. If they can't outsmart a tiger, then we need a new trainer.
that has to be it, he sits in the lap of luxury in his habitat, maybe he needs an upgrade trailer, good idea red.
WAFB interviewed David Baker on their LSU 2009 season preview special and he said that they "practice" with Mike during the week leading up to the game. He said that during these practice sessions, he gets in the trailer most times with no problem, but on game day Mike can tell that something is amiss and doesn't want any part of the shenanigans. Baker also pointed out that tigers are mostly removed creatures in the wild and that many tigers coincide with humans in their natural habitats without the humans ever realizing how close they actually are to them. I'm not sure if they've ever had similar issues with the previous Mikes, but perhaps the fact that this particular Mike is the first siberian/bengal mix that LSU has had that maybe this is effecting his "performance" and his reclusiveness.
perhaps we ought to force him into the cage. We spend how much money on him? and he won't get in his cage? The old cage had a gate that forced him into the trailer. I guess that's to inhumane. Besides, if he were p.o.'d about being in the cage, it might make him more intimidating to the opposing players as they come out.
Honestly, I think the reason he won't get in that trailer is that it is too small. Mike V got in it with no problem, but Mike VI is nearly twice as large. I think if the trailer was a bigger rig, he'd get in it... Just a hunch.
i do not like that idea. at all. seems that a cat that stubborn might get a bad attitude towards everyone if forced to do something. for everyones sake (and safety), he needs to keep a good disposition. you may be onto something there. but if its the game day excitement that is causing him to balk cause he senses something is different, i dont know what can be done other than red's idea and make it more of a natural everyday thing to want to get in it, then on game day use a huge carrot approach to getting in.
and while we are at it, can we get mike some tigress action? But a one night stand kind of thing, it would be hell forcing him to share his space and be in a cage with a female. Talk about cruel. :hihi:
