The mighty Michigan State D:rolleye33: Good team and all but I have a hard time watching them play and giving them that respect. They looked slow and prodding against a totally inept Michigan team.(compared to the better SEC D's) Wasnt their D ranked pretty highly last year when Bama blew threw them like a wet paper bag? Guess they deserve it after easily dispatching powerful opponents like Youngstown St, Florida Atlantic, and Central Michigan. Just think what we would do to some of these proud programs right now like Michigan and Notre Dame. (Ohio State- been there done that....when they were good to boot)

yeah they are number one- bc they dont really play anybody worthwhile--- ND, Michigan, youngstown state, florida atlantic--- GMAFB
when they "beat" wisconsin" and Nebraska-- maybe we'll talk, but MSU and michigan were both waaaaayyyyy overranked

This is exactly why looking at, and basing your opinion on, stats alone is dangerous. Michigan St's D is not even in the same league as LSU's or Bama's. I think it is frustrating to listen to announcers, analysts, and all the other talking heads beat these "rankings" into everyone's head week after week. Every now and then one of them gets a moment of clarity and discusses the qualitative factors behind the numbers, which is where you will find the truth.

I made the comment after last season that Saban beat himself twice: once when LSU beat bama, and again when bama beat Mich St.

This, of course, was in retaliation for him trying to take credit for the 2007 NC.

Youngstown State, FAU, Central Michigan, Ohio State (Bauserman played a majority of the game), Notre Dame (before they got their act together offensively) and Michigan.

Not a veritable who's who list in terms of offense.

It's really not that dissimilar from bama's schedule, to be frank.

    That would be correct.

Neither of those teams faced an Oregon or WVU.

And let's not forget we are the ones to derail the MSU express train averaging nearly 600 yards per game. Since playing LSU, that team lost all it's mojo on offense. We sent them into a downward spiral quick.

Very true, then you look at WVU and Oregon who are literally scoring machines and you have to give our D an edge. I am anxious to see how Bama plays TN this weekend. Our other common opponent produced nearly identical results.
