I think Michigan should have gone to the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is a joke, but this year the joke just isn't funny enough. Some of you are complaining that the Rose Bowl is too bound to tradition. I say it is not bound enough. You want tradition? Tradition is that USC wins the Rose Bowl and Michigan loses it. In the Pac-10, they say their goal at the start of every season is to win the Rose Bowl. At Michigan, their recent history indicates that their goal at the start of every season is to lose the Rose Bowl. But wait, Michigan has one more loss than Illinois you say? Well lets look at that. Michigan beat Illinois head to head. Michigan had two losses early. One of those losses was to an Oregon team with Dixon healthy, one of the toughest out of conference games possible. Illinois did not schedule any such tough out of conference game, and almost beyond certainty would have lost to Oregon too. So, Michigan beats Illinois head-to-head but schedules a tough out of conference game they cannot win, ends up with one more loss, and now has to play a tougher team (Florida) for a lesser prize (Capital One Bowl or something). Where is the Rose Bowl's committment to tradition? Why don't they just introduce an electronic football next year that throws itself? I was looking forward to seeing USC predictably beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl again? I look forward to that every year. There is a certain charm to a game so heavily steeped in years of predictability. If a playoff system is ever introduced, I thoroughly hope that the Rose Bowl can continue as a set annual neutral site matchup between USC and Michigan, with the winner receiving some antiquated traditional relic, such as an AP national championship trophy.
Michigan didn't qualify as an at-large BCS team. Must be in the top 14, they were 32. Any team losing to 1-aa Appy state should be banned from bowl play for two years.
Illinois Played Missouri the first game of the seaon and losy 40-34. I would say that was a pretty tough OOC game
Oh, I guess I missed the Missouri game because Yahoo just highlights the rankings of the teams at the time of the game, not later in the year. Anyway, I am kidding around, I guess nobody else likes to mock the Rose Bowl tradition and the Big-10's bowl ineptness.
The Rose Bowl is the annual over-hyped stale game that has a really good parade. The real football will be in the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, and BCS Championship game. The Pac-1 representative will continue to be USC unless they make it to the title game. With only 2-3 possible representatives from the Big 10, the game will continue to be the same over and over again. Some call it tradition. I call it boring.
With Ohio St. playing in the BCS CG every Big10 team moved up to a bowl they shouldn't be in, same with the SEC.
The extra game sort of creates this issue. But it probably helps the SEC with more money from bowl games.
Can't have that... if USC were to beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl, they'd want a piece of the National Title :hihi:
