I don't get too fired up about these conversations and periodic rumors of Miles' departure opportunities to Michigan or anywhere else. Like him or not, Miles has done a great job here at LSU. He took over a program from one of the top coaches in the business and has continued to deliver success. I would take him over many of the available coaches out there. Not just for his win - loss record but for the man that he is. He is good with his coaches he is great with his players. He has displayed great concern and love for the well being of each person in his program. He has been faced with a large number of great challenges in a high profile job and just keeps plugging along. Many coaches could not have done this. If he has the opportunity to go and coach at Michigan and he feels called to do so, then he should. Not because I (or anyone else for that matter) think he should go. He should follow where he is called to go. You and I would probably do the same thing and wouldn't be faulted for it. He has given his heart to LSU and displayed incredible loyalty to the program, his players, his staff and the University. It's interesting that we overlook these character qualities and want to shove him down the road. There are a lot of people who would demand this loyalty and commitment from themselves or others but when it comes to Miles it carries little weight. Sorry, but Miles fits LSU. The hat, the grass eating, Miles speak, dancing the Harlem shuffle and his love ... these are just a few reasons why he is where he is supposed to be. Maybe we should start measuring him a little differently. Right now I don't know of anyone out there who would be a better fit for LSU. In time we could probably find someone who would come in a deliver a truck load of W's and satisfy the fan base. But who is that person and where is the guarantee that they would deliver here? Is it worth flipping this program over and dumping out all the contents to start again? Or is it possible to remain loyal to the man who has given so much (including sacrificing opportunities to coach at his alma mater) and make some tweaks to a program that is experiencing a consistent run of success? So it might be worth considering how difficult it is to replace all the players who are starting in the NFL (although Mett was recently injured) and still deliver a winning season, a bowl game and a top 25 ranking. One season is not a body of work. No, it's not Alabama. But there is only one of those. There is only one coach at the top of his game. We are but 1 of 110 programs chasing that guy up there. Being in the top quartile of College Football is still pretty damn good. The grass is always greener on the other side but it may not taste as good as the pitch right here at home. If Miles leaves, I am thrilled for HIM because he gets to realize a dream. After all he has been through he deserves the opportunity. I would contend, however, that his dream is right here at LSU and that while he grew up Maize and Blue his legacy will be Purple and Gold. Either way I am happy for the man. It's been a run of highs and lows. Celebrations and frustrations. But seriously folks, that's what sports is. It's about the fight, it's about the challenge, it is suffering and soul searching and never stopping to improve and reach the top. So, yes there will be highs and lows but that's what the journey is. So stop trying to be like the Bama fans who are only happy if they reach the Championship. They fuss and whine and get all upset by the prospect of losing a game. They aren't even happy when they win because of the WAY they won. It's just not fun for them. I'd rather have fun along the way because guess what? The skies aren't clear every day of this life. So you better find a way to bring the sunshine no matter what the weather is. Life is too damn short. So if nothing else I will keep Les because of his character and his fun loving approach to life. And if he leaves ... well I hope that he has great success and gets to dance each day wherever he lands.
Well I know one thing, most of my friends in the profession are safe, real safe. An making good money. After an 11:00 game this season, I was invited to eat and drink a few with some coaches and families. After I was looking to pay, an was told who had picked up the tab, the other coach said, he invited, an he always pays. Plus, he's making great bank now.
why should we take note. we already know les is the best we can ever do in this history of our program. how many times do you think you have to repeat it. we can never have a consistent passing game to go with all the rest. we know. we should just stand pat and enjoy knowing 100 yards passing is good enough. 78.6%. les knows best. the program should probably shut down if he decides to leave. odds are we wont find anyone better. ever. we know. but cant a nigga dream.
After reading this, I just lowered my pants a little. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I've been trying to get this through your thick skull, that hard head of yours. I'm glad you woke up to see the light, moved away from the dark side. It took you long enough, I almost lost all hope. You have found water in the desert. You have found the Holy Grail, the Fountain of Youth, you have seen the Angels in the Outfield. You have claimed the Loto. The secret of life. Sorry to see it took you so long, some are just slow to learn. But have rose above it all. Now doesn't it seem like life has something for you? You have found your calling.
