I've occasionally heard the rumors as well, but only on online chat sites. Nothing more. I'm leaning towards smear campaign. The only thing proven about Petrino is that he turned Louisville around, and was good enough to be hired by a professional football team. IMO, A. Blank would not hire a "Shady Character" to take the helm of his team. And they know more of his background than we'll ever know.
Yep, that is true. I know that Kentucky's basketball program never, never would have been investigated if that videotape package hadn't opened during transit. It was all jut a rumor before then, but one I figured -- with a great deal of bitterness given the raking over the NCAA had given LSU -- was true. Wasn't Petrino also the one who failed, miserably, his interview with Skip? Why would someone who did that bad be given a second chance?
2 words for you...Micheal Vick! Why would he draft a shady character to run his offense?? Then all of a sudden he starts looking strictly at character??
I keep reading that Lloyd Carr doesn't want CLM to be the next guy. First, why should that matter? Carr was gonna be canned if he didn't resign. Why should he have such influential input? Second, where's the proof that he doesn't like CLM? What has he said or done that is documented in this regard? Just wondering. I won't be able to listen to CLM's press briefing at 12:15, so if someone can give me a quick summary when it happens, it'd be much appreciated and will earn you some valuable reputation points! :milesmic:
I am just curious why would we want Miles here if he wants to be in Michigan. In my opinion IF (big if) LSU falters in one of the two next games. I say we help him Pack if that is what he wants to do. Like most I am so tired of the 3-5 year coaching search. I always wonder why a program like ours cannot have its "Jim Tressel" or "Bobby Bowden" sure have some ups and down years but our coach. But I digress. | Like I said, I dont think losing Miles is a huge loss, but I know I am in the minority and often get flamed here for saying it. Which is fine. But I guess my biggest frustration is I have grown weary of coaches who think there is something better than LSU. Yes I know its a job and need perspective. But I am so tired of this song and dance. If Miles wants the Michigan job and doesnt want to commit to LSU then help pay for the moving van. I think we made a TRAGIC mistake allowing Saban to do what he did and remain as coach during the Cap One bowl. I think its time LSU gets some self respect with these coaches. Encourage him to stay (I actually want Miles yes I know confusing, just want someone to stick it out) but if he wants Michigan. Hell let him go ! Tell him to leave a check for 1.25 million Thanks for your efforts And lets go find us a young energetic LSU man. I find it hard to believe we will never find our "Bob Stoops" or "Jim Tressel" If Miles stays great but I think we are all taking Bong hits if we think he is.
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but would Michigan shell out the greenbacks to sign Miles if he wins the NC??? If LSU wins the BCS championship, Les Miles will get a nice raise, from his current salary of $1.85 million to somewhere in the neighborhood of $3.5 million. That is, if Miles chooses to remain head coach of the Tigers. We also know, if Miles coaches the Tigers to a BCS title, his LSU contract guarantees him a salary commensurate with the top three salaried college coaches. And they are: Alabama's Nick Saban ($4 million), Notre Dame's Charlie Weis ($3.5 million) and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops ($3.45 million). You assume, if the Tigers win the BCS title on Jan. 7 at the Superdome, and Michigan wants Miles -- and the school is willing to match what Miles would be making should he remain at LSU -- Miles would immediately become the highest paid football coach in the Big Ten. Does this mean he'd be making more than Ohio State's Jim Tressel, who coaches the Buckeyes for $2.1 million a year? It means Miles would be making more than the top-salaried coach in the Big Ten, which is not Jim Tressel, but Iowa's Kirk Ferentz, whose salary is $2.8 million a year. Thoughts?????
There will be a political internal struggle regarding Les Miles being the new coach at Michigan. It's like an old Baptist Church selecting a new Pastor. If they bring in a new preacher that few people know much about, and he sounds good, then everyone votes for him. Now the candidate that everyone knows has a much harder shot at being the new preacher simply because he's been around long enough to have some enemies. And it sounds like Carr is one of Miles' enemies. So I say there's just a 40% chance Miles gets offered the job. I also believe CLM understands this and will not agree to an interview process. So I expect a decision in the next 10 days Coach Miles is staying or no comment at all which means he is going. I also believe Michigan will be somewhat respectful to the position Coach Miles is in at LSU.
The timing of his announcement would tend to support that line of thought. I'm curious about how many will be disappointed if he stays. :hihi:
First of all...Carr would have NEVER been fired...never. Secondly, Lloyd Carr will likely remain on board at UM in some capacity...such as asst AD. I have no link, but have heard a couple of things regarding why Carr has a "rift" with Miles. One is the recruitment of Jai Eugene...and the others I have heard is some comments made to recruits while he was at OK St. Something along the lines that Carr shouldn't be the coach at UM...and that he would be retiring soon...remember this was 4 years ago or so. Carr...rightfully so...wasn't happy about those comments.
