Re: Coach Miles tells recruit he's staying at LSU

Yeah, I know, it's just rare I see it in print from a recruit stating what the coach is actually telling him. I think its coaches code, they all say the same thing.

Re: Saban open to talks with LSU

Im sure Saban regrets leaving LSU and probably wishes he would have waited a year before bailing on the fins but I cant see any scenario that would have Saban coming back to LSU. I dont think he would consider it at this point. I saw an interview with his wife last week and she eliminated any chance of the Saban family moving again citing concerns about their daughter and more importantly, the negative publicity they endured when leaving Miami. She emphatically said they would never go through that again. Regardless of what Saban may regret, he wont be coming back to LSU or going anywhere anytime soon according to Mrs. Saban.

True, but if he's leaving tomorrow, what does he care if LSU lands this kid?

Was Saban's wife referring to LSU fans yelling "Tiger Bait" at her Just before the LSU/Bama game?

    Discussing the Miles Legacy

Okay. This is not a Miles bashing, but one that looks at the big picture. I will make my premise then defend it in detail.

Les Miles will not likely ever win a national championship with his current coaching strategy.

Using this year as a gauge, it is an interesting comparison. Looking at the 2003 Championship season versus the 2007 Non-Championship season, they are some key differences in strategy. In 2003, LSU outscored opponents 277 to 43 in the first half. This year, LSU outscored its opponents 190 to 105 in the first half (95 to 89 in the last 7 games). So, what does this mean? The coaching staff in 2003 used a quick strike mentality to overwhelm an opponent in the first half, take them out of their offensive strategy, and then become relentless on defense in the second half. Essentially, they put opponents away early and kept them on their heels. On the other hand, the current coaching staff used a "Big Ten" mentality of wearing a team out by ball control. The I-formation and Hester show. This, in effect, kept good ball teams (last 7 games) in the whole game and they were able to sustain their offensive game plans. It put our defense on its heels and it became an offensive game trading scores. Hence, close nail-biters and you will NOT always win the close ones as we painfully found out this year.

I know that last two years Miles was much better in the first half scoring statistics, but again he has always leaned toward running more and more. I heard sports talk say that LSU would have been unstoppable with Jamarcus in the Crowton system. However, I respectfully disagree. Jamarcus should have had two incredible years from a passing perspective, but they were just good ones. He still had only two 300 yards games in his whole career. Miles will not give up his strategy regardless of his passing talent. Matter of fact, he had more scoring threats this year than ever and they sat on the sideline watching Hester get the majority of the carries. Crowton said coming here that his goal was to score points. Well, I firmly believe that he would have averaged 50+ points a game with a free rein in the first half using the best scoring threats at his disposal. Miles absolutely would have not allowed this. He wants to pound the ball and use up the clock.

We can say all that we want that Saban was conservative, but he did allow Jimbo to strike quick and often in the first half. He did get conservative in the second half but the game was over most of the time anyway.

I am simply comparing a game strategy and not at all making any overtures to the probable upcoming coaching search. What I am saying is that Les Miles doesn't quite understand the value scoring quick and often in a game to dictate tempo and momentum. What the offense does in a first half will either help or hurt how the defense performs in the second half. This also means that his ball control mentality in the first half hurts the defense by not giving them a lead to work with.

Coaches have to learn to change strategies when necessary to continue winning. Some coaches never learn.

FWIW, Terry, I don't believe it will happen...and personally don't WANT it to. But I would suggest that since Finebaum said "don't believe a word of it", some will now be inclined to believe EVERY word of it. Not exactly the most genuine quotee.:nope:

Re: Coach Miles tells recruit he's staying at LSU

I do believe that Coach Miles has more ethics then a snake. He's knows what goes around comes around. I just think it's hilarious that Saban is snaking his way around Louisiana recruits telling them Miles is leaving for Michigan and they should go play for Bama and he is a man of his word. LSU will hire another good coach and build on its already successful winning tradition. :thumb:

LOL...she didnt mention that but she did talk about having lots of friends from LSU and how some of them spent time with the Sabans at their summer home. She also talked about going shopping at one of her favorite stores in BR and other LSU related stuff but she made it pretty clear they wouldnt be moving anytime soon.
