I don't get the whole permission thing. So if LSU doesn't want to let Les Miles go, wouldn't we simply tell everyone NO that asks for permission?
Just a formality. Everyone knows they're interested...nobody knows how much, and nobody knows if the feeling is mutual.
It’s business etiquette, just acting in a professional manner so that no one gets a head slap surprise. Of course it’s not always followed – I can think of two schools in the SEC West whose coaches are famous for not following this professional etiquette. HINT – Both school names start with the letter “A”.
I can't imagine Les Miles would be happy about that. It's better to just have Michigan contact Miles than to have Miles contact Michigan.
In this case I would think they wouldn't come out and say they are interested until they know there is interest from Miles. They cant afford to get publicly declined by one of their alums that they officially say they want to hire.
I didn't say it wasn't. I just said it's a formality to "interview" him. Like Kluke said, it's etiquette. - Everything is speculation at this point. At best, there's ONE person that knows what's going on...and even he may not know right now. - How many teams had a deal with Harbaugh last week? Speculation, man.
