Sort of a Lester Earl - Louis Earl - Tiger Womack deal...without all the accompanying sleaze, of course. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
If LSU was like SMU, I would probably agree. If we were still under probation and trying to pull ourselves out, I would say it might be a calculated risk worth taking - maybe a situation like Baylor. But, seeing as we have suffered through some miserable years and lots of disappoint and finally have the program on solid footing, I don't think it's worth it. We have some solid players and there are players considering LSU. We also have less available spots to where big risk players aren't a good strategy IMO. The less spots, the more selective you have to become, and the more you have to target players that make sense as opposed to players with big "ifs" attached to them. Personally, I would sacrifice any exposure a celebrity would garner for the school if the basketball team could climb to the point where we aren't talked about as a team that "could make a run", but instead talked about as a team that "is a contender for the final four and championship". I guess I'm not much into the "cool" factor...especially since it's very unlikely to be sustainable. If we are talking about daydreaming, then yeah, it's a fun thought. But more fun would be going to the Final Four again.
But if MJ idolized Maravich so much growing up, why didn't he go to LSU in the first place??? Coming out of high school, the elder Jordan, as EVERYONE knows, wasn't recruited real well--heck, he was cut in high school! ...so for a player that was once cut in high school, and idolized Pistal Pete, and ended up at UNC, why do you think his kid will end up at LSU?
MJ got cut from one of the most prestigious high schools as a Freshman: So all that is saying is that at age 14, he couldn't compete with some kids ready for college. That is no big deal: When he was recruited and signed by UNC, it showed his worth b/c at the time, UNC already had built a good base of a program. To add some flavor to the mix of Jeffrey coming here, where did MJs career begin? NEW ORLEANS on 'the shot' That may be worth noting. He has said many times that this city was the one that began the magic.
I guess it may be pointless, but I thought that having Josh on the team would get us a lot of "exposure," mainly because he's the son of a legend. It did not, and probably will not. Having MJ's son on our team wouldn't mean jack **** if he doesn't perform. Would MJ even go to a game that his son wouldn't even be playing in? However, I guess if he DID play, it would be pretty cool..
If he ended up on LSU's team and Brady was still the coach, all that would happen is "fans" bitching about Brady wasting a roster spot on him if he is not good.
As much as I love Pete M, Michael Jordan is WAAAY more popular with todays generation and would be a much bigger deal as far as exposure goes...Most people these days knows who Pistol Pete is, but EVERYONE today knows who Jordan is and what he did...It would be a huge deal..
Unlike Josh, Jeffrey really is a legit prospect... The dude can flat out play... Marivich didn't bring exposure, b/c he didn't play. Why pay to see someoen it down on a strip of wood all game?
True, they'll be bitching about as much as "fans" will be defending the signing when he transfers from the program a year or two later.
