its ludicrious to think a few touches here and there are going to get him ready for next season. And when are you going to give him touches? in crunch time? In blowouts? mop up duty? The only way to get him properly ready would be to give him ~5 touches a game the rest of the season, and are you willing to sacrifice SEC games this year in order to get him ready next year? red shirt him so he can stick around an extra year. I would rather have an inexperienced red shirt freshman carrying the rock next year over a true freshman carrying the rock this year.
Can't you get playing time without burning the redshirt? Certain amount of time during non-conference games I think. If that is the case, he could play parts of three games. Would that be enough carries to prepare him for next year?
That rule has been changed. Only way he could be granted a redshirt is if he plays within the 1st 3 games and is injured for the rest of the season. Then he could possibly get a medical hardship to get the year back.
1 play = redshirt gone. He'd have to get injured (or "injured" :wave to get a medical redshirt at that point.
yeah that worked real well last season with the quarterbacks. experience is experience. Jefferson didn't see much time last year with the exception of 2 starts, you think it helped him any?
Comparing QBs and RBs in this instance doesn't equate to much. Ford may get some time this year but something would have to happen. It would help to get some reps but you have to also think about losing a year for a few snaps. Ford is a great freshman but was not earth shattering in the Spring, give him time.
Not anymore. You play you lose the redshirt, unless they went and changed the rules again. Only way to play and be redshirted is if it is a medical redshirt which only come about because of a season ending injury. (If Murphy's injury is as bad as some think, he can apply for this to gain another year of eligibility.)
I thought that Jefferson could have got redshirted if would not have played the GT game? Nevermind then.
