Michael Ford needs to see some playing time. With Richard Murphy out for the season, that leaves us with 4 running backs who have seen playing time. 3 of them are seniors and will not be back next season. That means if Ford doesn't see any time, we will be going into next season with Ridley and Murphy (if he is healed) as the only 2 running backs that have seen playing time, and Ridley hasn't seen significant playing time yet. I know alot of people will say not to burn a possilbe redshirt, but we don't need to go into next season with little experience at tailback. Thoughts? By the way, i am not complaining because he hasn't seen any yet, i just think at some point this year, we need to get this guy some touches to better prepare him for next season, because it seems he may see alot of time next season.
I agree totally. I've been arguing this point with a guy in my office. You have to get him some PT even if it's for next year.
that would really be the only reason i would get him touches. We will be fine barring injury at running back this season, what i am worried about is having the 08 quaterback situation with no experience happen in 2010 at running back.
So Miles was asked about Ford in the press conference today, and he avoided it, saying he was happy with the play of Williams, Scott, and Jackson. Well no crap. This is not why you need to get the guy some snaps this season. If they do not get Ford some touches this season i think it will be a big mistake going into next season.
He isn't interested in getting him snaps. He wants to redshirt Ford. He doesn't want to waste a year of eligiability if he doesn't have to just to get him some snaps.
So you are comfortable going into next season with no experience carrying the ball in the SEC? Who knows if Murphy is going to be ok, or the same player. I think this is a big mistake. And also its ok to burn others redshirts for minimal playing time but not a running back, who we are going to lean on heavily next season? Ludicrous.
Stevan Ridley. If he's healthy (and he's looking good on special teams right now), he's going to surprise some folks at RB next year. Before Murph got hurt, I was against burning Ford's RS. Now, I'm not opposed. Will be interesting to see what the coaches do against ULL.
Hopefully we lean on Ridley next year and he will get his chance to get some meaningful reps this season. They are taking it slow with Ridley because he is just getting back from his ACL injury.
