Thanks, I'm sure Miles considered this before he hired Crowton, but we do have the players here to run this type of offense. Our quarterback of present and future have enough running ability. Our recievers, especially Holliday, are good after the catch. Dickson showed me that he is an excellent young receiving tight end last year. Williams has very fast straight line speed. Hester is a great receiving back. Murphy seems very dangerous in open space, I assume he can catch fairly well. The only thing I worry about is turnovers from the option pitch and the QB not securing the ball very well. Every time Russell ran the ball I worried that he would fumble. He waved it out there with his long arms and made me nervous. Hopefully, Flynn will tuck it away more securely. I am optimistic about the new Offense.

I think this will play into Flynn's strengths- running, accuracy on short to mid-range passes (Not having the "Big" arm), as well as other strengths in our team like you mentioned. :thumb:

Exactly. It may also give running backs, turned wide receivers, like R.J., more opportunities to see the field in the future. Running after the catch should be more valuable when you spread the field.

Abernathy is a Hester type FB. His physical presence is different, but his skills could present many problems for defense...like trying to tackle him.

Ridley is a Hester type FB, in that he's versatile in his ability to block, run the ball, or catch it out of the backfield.

Abernathy isn't quite that versatile. From what I can tell, he's a good blocker & good runner, but not as much of a threat to catch it out of the backfield.

Abernathy is a RB, so he is that versatile. He is just bigger. Obviosuly most FB's wont have hands like Hester, but compare Abernathy to the stereotypical HS or college FB and he is damn athletic.

I've read that there is no verifiable evidence that Abernathy has ever blocked anyone.

Since your location is Alabama on your Avatar we value your opinion highly, although I too had the same impression as CParso about the guy.

That was my exact quote when I saw his highlight film!

For a kid at 235 lbs., he has GREAT balance--the "Big Baby balance"; you just don't expect to see it, but he shows it to you every other play.

Not "cat quick" in his cuts, but at 235, I would rather see him run north/south anyways, and THEN "break a defender's ankles" when he's past the line.

Got deceptive speed. I was doubting his listed 4.5-forty time, because he just didn't appear to be running that fast...until you see DB's, etc. trying to catch him from behind. And while I think he's more of a 4.55-4.6 in the forty, that's still pretty fast enough when you're a brusing back.

I hope we get him. As I've said numerous times before, I'm a big fan in a stable of running backs that have different attributes, and not all the same style of runner.

Even if his stance didn't change, the way we use our fullbacks have been largely different from the way schools like 'Bama (who pretty much had your typical "smashmouth" blocker leading the way for RB's like Darby). Hester has sort of put a new light on the way the FB position is run here, and guys like Abernathy might be taking notice and realize that being a FB doesn't automatically mean you're just gonna block.
