apparently is about to commit. Great FB, but has grade issues. Has offers from great programs. Wanted to go to Bama but they backed off. If he qualifies will be a great pickup. He actually plays RB but projects at FB.
Nevermind...found him. Here's a snippet. Fullback Michael Abernathy has plenty options but the rising senior from Russellville, Alabama decided that LSU was the place for him not long ago. The 6-foot-0, 235 pound prospect from Russellville runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds...
I heard Bama was slow and was just getting on him...where did you hear they were backing off? I mean besides every Bama fan after he said LSU leads?
His videos are among the mst impressive you'll ever see. He must kill puppies and have terrible grades to only be listed as a 3-star.
It is a pleasant surprise since I did not give LSU much of a chance on landing him. Hope he can get the grade situation straightened out though. It does not do much good to recruit someone who can't play.
He plays like an animal and will be a great pick up IF you can keep his head screwed on straight. This is from people that know him, "He has issues." I would have loved him at Bama, maybe the staff thought that he was too much of a project or didn't fit just right. I have a friend that has watched him play 8-10 times and he referred to him as "the offense". Congrats.
Someone on the Rivals National board had some pretty unflattering things to say about the guy. He said he knows the coaches or former coaches and said he was the most uncoachable player they've ever had, and that had his previous coach stuck around he would not be on the team this year. I wonder if his offer is conditional on staying out of trouble or anything. The kid's videos are AWESOME, but I don't think anyone's going to get by in the SEC on talent alone if they aren't willing to be coached. Based on his videos, I'd say he's a high 4-star (a 6.0 using the Rivals scoring method). He misses the 5-star status because he doesn't look to play really fast, even though he reportedly has 4.5 speed. He is reminiscent of that Wisconsin running back from a few years ago. He had a brilliant college career as a bruising running back despite not having break-away speed.
2 things If we get Abernathy does this relegate Theriot to LB exclusively? I haven't heard that Abernathy plays another position. How much are we going to use a big bruising fullback in Crowton's offense? I keep thinking that the offense is more wide open and based on speedy backs who can catch. I even saw an article saying that Hester had lost a little weight, but I don't know if it was intentional.
I'm not sure that the coaching staff would take a commitment from him, but he sure seems to think so. His videos are awesome, but I'm just as pleased with Theriot. With Ridley currently listed as a FB, I question why we need two in this class? Unless Theriot is projected as a LB, in which case I question why we need 3 LBs in this class?
