michigan state was 3-4 coming into the box. three of their four losses were to big 12 teams, one being to mizzou who is ranked 6th so that isnt surprising, but two other games to k state who seems to be struggling.
All I know is that they finished a game below .500 last year. They seem to be slightly below middle of the pack in the Big Ten (which has never been confused as a baseball conference). As was pointed out by Vegas, last few years, we lost series to teams like Lipscomp and Stetson. So dominating these games instead of losing them, is definitely a step in the right direction.
i fully agree. i just want to see how the team responds to the bigger challenge of conference play. i believe the tougher tests are the best indicator of how far the team has come. but have we already made improvements and had great recruiting? you bet! all indicators of a program that is on the right track. i want to see that all of the signs you listed are still there against quality teams.
Totally agree. But this first stretch of games is mainly to see what players are going to get the starting positions for those games. The past few years LSU struggled in these games and they were at a handicap when it came to the meat of the schedule. So far this year looks to be a little different. 9-1. Not too shabby. Edit: I went back and checked and we actually did pretty good the past few years out the gate. 7-2 last year. So maybe I will hold off on judgment for now.
