How can you be taken seriously if your take from the game omits a good qb from your assessment? It's not so much what we saw, but also what we DIDN'T see such as Int's, sacks, loss of down, dropping back to pass, not run, etc. Not to mention, finally a qb who not only know the play but can read a defense and check out, when needed.
He completed 45% of his passes. Lots of excuses, drops, throws out of bounds etc. It's very doubtful he'll be up for the Heisman. Every year people post about how we add hiding shit, then the bottom falls out. See MooU last year. He graduated college up North. He's not a young guy & he should know these little things well, being a backup for years at tOSU
We don't need a heismann Qb. Out of bounds throws were due to coverage- sometimes the defense wins. Inexperienced qb's force passes and get int's, or hold on to it too long and get sacked, he didn't. As for the 45% completion, a couple of passes hit the receivers' hands. I know it's part of the game but not because of inaccurate passer you knucklehead.
I know. I've heard the game manager argument too. He didn't have a great game. Not saying he can't though. Was just his first game. He'll get tested against the Barn.
That is something people aren't putting enough emphasis on. It's like any job. Let's take a veteran teacher who's been at a given school for, say, 10 yrs. Take that teacher and go drop her in another school across town and imagine how it would take a while to settle in to get to the same comfort level. Pedagogy aside, she has to form new relationships, learn her way around, etc. Wait til he runs out of the tunnel for his first home SEC game. Dude's in for a treat.
The checks were impressive. He also put some passes on the money while scrambling (the big one Jefferson dropped) and knew when to just throw it away and not force anything.
I laughed my ass off years ago when I first saw that Gus Bus pic. It looks like someone just asked him if he eats Grape Nuts or something.
