how about the player who runs on the field without his helmet when the runner is about the 5 yd line. that was the most egregious of all. so they reviewed it for 9 mins and couldnt see the knee down or the players on the field of play. they cant call a block in the back on the review so thats out. all this on dukes home turf.
The entire Offciating crew, including the replay official, was suspended for 2 games for multiple gaffes made on that play. The biggest one being the player being down before he lateraled. There were 2 blocks in the back, one early in the play that was missed and another one where the flag was picked up because it was ruled a block from the side instead of the back. However, they didn't determine that until they looked at the replay, but penalties are not reviewable. Lastly, the players that ran onto the field during the run would not have negated the TD. According to the ACC, the penalty should have been enforced as a dead ball foul (even though the ball was not dead?). http://espn.go.com/college-football...cials-replay-officials-wild-miami-duke-finish
No way. They never make mistakes or show bias for one team over another, so they would side the their officials. Remember the PP7 interception at Bama? SEC sided with the officials. That's just one example, but I'm sure there are countless other ones.
Despite the fact that the play should have been flagged and the TD shouldn't have counted and the ACC suspended the officials, the ACC named the Miami player who scored the touchdown the ACC Offensive Player of the Week
That's covered in the sbnation story. They say if it had been flagged, it would count as a dead ball foul and wouldn't negate the touchdown. They also say the mandatory helmet rule applies only to players on the field and doesn't count for players on the sideline, but that brings up a better point they didn't cover.....couldn't they have thrown a flag for 12 men on the field?
