Surprised to see these final stats. Sure seemed like a mostly "quiet" 2,609 yards, especially considering Mett was great in essentially only three games. All we can hope is that it's something to build on, and for him to reach the point where that missed throw to Landry in the Clemson game becomes routine, as well as improvement on the long ball.

I look at a guy like McCarron, and say that's all we need. We don't need a dynamic playmaker at QB, just a Matt Flynn-type who is a steady leader. Can that be Mett in 2013?

Boone should have caught that ball. Granted, it wasn't the most well placed ball, but he did get both hands on it. Those are the kind that I place more blame on the receiver.

Note that all those QBs went on to be taken in the Draft...

#1 overall by Raiders - Russell
#59 overall by Patriots - Hodson
#117 overall by Patriots - Davey
#172 overall by Seahawks - Booty
#209 overall by Packers - Flynn
#225 overall by Broncos - Mauck
#274 overall by Dolphins - Wickersham

...and, in the last month, NFL scott Russ Lande has released versions 1.0 and 2.0 of his Top 200 prospects for the upcoming draft, and this is where he has Mettenberger
    #172 overall - on Dec 25, 2012
    #155 overall - on Dec 11, 2012

been saying this all year... if he hits on these and other open receivers, we go undefeated... and the thing is they're usually overthrown by 5+yds...

exactly... and he had to pull a louganis just to get his hands on the damn ball...

It's incredible how little all those yards amounted to. Offense still near the bottom of the NCAA. I imagine extra games pad his stats a bit.

And how many times did Boone, Wright, and Landry bail him out with highlight catches? Boone and Landry's ended up being the difference in 2 wins for us that could have been losses without their remarkable diving TD catches. Landry's was the best I've ever seen.

that's just the way the games evolved. nobody in the world believes any of these were better qbs than, say, bert jones or ya tittle. but it's still depressing to see this list and what we've done in modern day, yet had success with. can't help but think "what if we had a qb with a year like...".

    Two points.
    1. Considering college football went to a 12 game schedule in what? 2001? Its not fair to compare numbers from prior to that... Next time post per game stats.
    2. Throwing the ball a lot doesn't make you a winner. Flynn was a winner. Mauck was a winner. Mett is a loser with a porn stache.

    Two more points to consider.
    1. Flynn shared PT and starts with Perrilloux (694 more yards of passing).
    2. Look at Flynn and Perrilloux's rushing numbers (+215 and +207 net respectively) and compare those to Mett's -208 net yards of moving like a sloth in the pocket.

Add/subtract all these numbers and you will see that Flynn/Perrilloux were responsible for 3523 yards of offense and two championships. While Mett had a total net output of 2401 yards and no hardware.
