I wish there were stats on making clutch throws . . .

I think Mett has the tools to be one of the best in the SEC. Just needs some help to improve. I am not sure what his work ethic is like, and I am not sure how well he accepts coaching, but if he is willing to work and buys in to coaching, all he needs is a better offensive coordinator, and protection from his oline to get the job done.

O-Line should be a concrete-and-steel bank vault next year. We'll see something special on offense, if Stud learns how to call a game.

I think the Clemson game proved the opposite:

Glenn Guilbeau on the Clemson game:
"Mettenberger was under constant pressure as he was sacked six times. True freshman right tackle Vadal Alexander probably had his worst game of the season.

Zach Mettenberger on the Clemson game:
"Our gameplan was really good, everything we wanted to run was there," Mettenberger said. "We had a right tackle that had an off night tonight (the young right tackle was Vadal Alexander). It sucks for tonight but we're going to get through this and be better next year."

Les Miles on the Clemson game:
“Our pass protection was poor,” said Miles

Glenn Guilbeau's thoughts on Mettenberger two days ago:
"Mettenberger still can be erratic at times, but he improved drastically late in the 2012 season and will continue to do so. What he needs is his offensive line to understand pass protection as well as Alabama’s line does with its history of immobile and successful quarterbacks. It would also help if his incoming and veteran receivers begin to grasp the concept of catching the ball consistently."

That's like saying Snooki could win a Nobel Prize in physics if she learned to become an expert in M-theory.

They exist, you just have to dig. Fourth quarter QB rating, 3rd down completion percentage are examples.

Here's what Mett had to say about his bad throw that probably cost us the Clemson game and a Top 10 finish, from a Glenn Guilbeau article...

On a second-and-2 play from the LSU 47 with less than two minutes to play and the Tigers leading 24-22, an LSU pass was the right call.

“It was really a great call,” Landry said. “They were out of position. They didn’t know how to line up to the formation we were in.”

Landry was open for the first down, but quarterback Zach Mettenberger, as he has done often this year, missed a receiver in the clear, overthrowing Landry.

“The one bad throw that I had all night was right there (open), and I really put the whole (blame for losing the) game on myself on really that one play,” Mettenberger said. “The whole year’s going to eat at me throughout the whole offseason. I definitely didn’t play how I really wanted to all year.”

“I can promise everybody out there that no one’s going to work harder on this team than I am to put this behind me and go out and have a great senior year,” Mettenberger said.

LSU's Passing game lacks any real creativity. Until we get a real OC, who Miles lets do his job, I think this is what we will continue to see out of LSU's passing game. Watching Notre Dame last night continue to run the three streak routes in man coverage and having Golston float a ball up hoping it was cought is a great example of the type of un creative passing game we are stuck with right now at LSU. I really believe Mett has the skill set to be a very good SEC QB, but a lack of creativity in our routes and route running makes it extremely easy for defenses to scheme against our passing game. Conversely, look at A&M and Arkansas' passing game when they played LSU, hell even Ole Miss, and you will see a much more complex scheme designed to get WR's open and into space. Until we learn how, or coach the kids how to do this, I think Mett and our WR's talent will just rot on the vine.

He does suffer from some serious delusions, I think. But sometimes, that's a desirable quality in a QB. It's how they can come out and still perform after throwing an interception. JL had problems with that aspect.
