That's a bit extreme. We have his first three years as evidence that he will throw the ball early and often given the right personnel, more specifically, the right QB to do it effectively. Even in 2008 when JL was a pick-6 machine, we were flinging the ball all over the place. That just was not a very good team. The JJ/JL drama aside, I don't believe we have had that guy since Flynn left. I do believe we have that guy in Mett, so I'm holding out hope that what we've seen the last few years was the result of personnel rather than personality. 2008 may have scarred CLM as much or more than it scarred JL. If next year and maybe even the year after, we still show the same thing we've seen recently, then suffice it to say, faith no more.
I think coach Krag meant what he said. That was his first press conference after being hired, so it probably really was the truth. I am sure les sat him down after that and let him know this is miles army and he will fall in line with the qb position. Hence, the next time coach Krag spoke during or right after spring practice jj was the "clear cut starter". As we seen, it wasn't that clear after all.
I was watching JJ, JL , and ZM warm up in NO before the game. To me, JL's release, speed of the ball, and accuracy of passes were looking better than JJ's. And that is usually not the case, at least to my untrained eye. But ZM's looked better than both - guy has got quite an arm - makes things look effortless. I know its not game situation, but I am cautiously optimistic for our offense next year.
That was my impression during the spring game. Met was better than JJ or JL with his mechanics, foot work, and arm. He just needed experience. I guess after what happened in 2008, Miles was not going to chance the teams' season and stayed with his seniors. But he chose JJ as his starter, the worse of the three.
I think we can all say that we anticipate what Mett can do for the offense. I just hope a "running QB" .. like Randall, doesn't get in the way. We've had enough of this musical QBs to last for some time. I'm sure Randall is great .. but the fact that he is a runner bothers me. I want to see a true pro-style QB that can make a difference. I want to see the offense designed for a pro-style QB, with the multiple options for the passing game. IMO .. the entire offensive squad would benefit .. the RBs, the WRs, the TE's, ... even the O-Line, would benefit from Mett being THE QB, not just one of several. He'll likely throw an int or two .. maybe even a critical int. Maybe even a pick 6. It happens. But don't pull him .. let him play through it, and become an even greater threat.
That did actually happen if I remember right mett played the entire 2nd half against NW state played very well, maybe if he had stunk it up a little more he would gotten to play some more
We went to the Oregon game and went in the stadium early, he looked much better than Lee in warmups. Could throw it a mile.......FWIW.
