Yeah...but there's something about this year. There's something about that Oregon team that screams DOMINANCE to me. Clemson and FSU are each others' only competition, and they both have a win over a top-shelf SEC team on their resumes. I really expected OSU to fall vs. Wisconsin, but they didn't, and nobody else in the B1G has a better chance than Wisky did. If you recall, they went undefeated last year and would have been in the NCG vs. ND. I'm telling you, the SEC is out this year.
Possibly. It certainly looks that way right now, and I completely agree with you about a mediocre Wisconsin team being the only real competition OSU will have. On the other hand, sometimes the trial by fire is what makes really good teams great. And the ones who aren't tested sometimes choke. It seems to happen most years. If we were to get left out with one loss, that would be our fault, of course. But I'm not counting us out, yet.
I'm inclined to agree with you here. I think Ohio goes undefeated against that Division 4 schedule, winner of Oregon/Stanford, and winner of Clemson/FSU - all go undefeated. That's without mentioning Oklahoma, who may have an even easier schedule than Ohio.
It kind of sucks when other conferences only have 1 contender, maybe 2 at most, while the SEC has about 5 that will all beat up on each other. But it's still way too early to rule the SEC out. Teams often have a habit of choking when they get complacent with themselves and see their easy schedule.
That's true, too. An undefeated name-brand like Oklahoma would be hard to keep out vs. a one-loss SEC team, no matter how soft their schedule is. Speaking of soft, there's also Louisville who is likely to end the season undefeated. So it could potentially be Oregon/Stanford, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Clemson/FSU, and Louisville all unbeaten, all standing around looking at each other and wondering who will get asked to the dance, while a one-loss SEC team that the whole country knows could whip more than half of them watches from the bleachers. Yeah, that's fair. The worst part is, even if we started the playoff system this year, the SEC would probably STILL be left out in the above scenario! The Gumptards are the SEC's only hope this year, and I want to smash that hope with a hobnailed boot!
Gotta remember that the B1G is without a Conference Championship, so a 1 loss SEC Champion LSU could get consideration over a weak undefeated B1G team, considering our schedule.
I suppose it's possible that a one-loss SEC team could get in over several of those likely undefeateds that we've mentioned. It'll be interesting to see how the BCS starts spitting them out in a few weeks.
