Guys and girls, this is a big one. LSU has a chance to clinch the whole enchilada with a win at Rupp Arena on national TV. A win here will also go a ways toward impressing the selection committee. Can LSU avoid a letdown after an emotional UF win at home? Can the team shut down the Meeks/Patterson show for UK? We'll find out tomorrow afternoon. :LSU231:
A win here and LSU is likely to end up 15-1 in the SEC and just outside the top 10 rankings going into the tourney. Big game for our ranking and seeding. RPI now 30. Should be about 25 with a win this Saturday and creep towards 20 if the streak continues into the tourney. http://www.realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html
I love these quotes in today's Reveille: Thornton is the conference’s No. 2 scorer with 20.9 points per game, while Mitchell sits at No. 8 with 16.6. “We’re a team — there is no Thornton and Mitchell,” Mitchell said. “We might be on top of the scoring lists ... but it’s not about us. We need our teammates to be successful.” “I’m not keyed on [Meeks],” Thornton said. “He puts his pants on one leg at a time just like I do. He’s a great player and hats off to him, but I play for LSU, and we’re going to try to go in there and win.”
Since I live in Pittsburgh, I couldn't pass up the chance to go to the game. I'll be there with my dad cheering on the Tigers. If anybody else is going to attend, stop by and say hello, I'm in section 320. :geaux:
Try this one on...the first LSU game on CBS this year and guess what the local CBS affiliate in Birmingham is showing...the boys high school championships in downtown B'ham at the BJCC. Are you freakin kidding me....You trump SEC hoops and two good teams for high school basketball? On the plus side, I will get to watch the game on the local CBS sub-affiliate. The video quality is worse than Raycom or Lincoln Financial football games...just barely above black and white. At least I can see it though...just not in HD like I should! Matt
I love it! And for those that don't think that coaching matters, and getting players is all that is important, take a look at this. This would not have come out of Thornton's mouth last year. What's ironic, though, is that this is the kind of attitude that breeds success, which in turn brings individual accolades. Good for MT. And, yes, hugely INTERESTING game. I won't call this game IMPORTANT, simply because LSU will have other chance(s) to win the SEC outright, LSU has not always fared well at UK, and after UF, I think it's fair to say LSU is in and LSU is playing now to get better--seeding is also not hugely important to me. It'd be nice to win on National TV for recruiting sake, but as long as the Tigers play well and get some of the bench players more time and experience, I'd be happy.
