In some ways I think a valid comparison could be made between Dale Brown and Les Miles. World-class recruiters, great motivators, marvelous team guys. Both capable of assembling tremendously talented teams, yet also a penchant for bad game day management and losing to inferior teams. Both could be outcoached as well. Both class acts that have represented the university well. But still you wonder...what if...
Interesting point, the only part I may disagree with is that they both lose to inferior teams, I can't think of one inferior team that Les has lost too. He has a great record here at LSU and seems to only lose to SEC teams. I'll go out on a limb and say Nick Saban lost to more inferior teams than Les Miles has. If you would consider Arkansas an inferior team I would disagree respectfully, Arkansas had a losing streak but were in many of those games. Arkansas is SEC, I am thinking of the bowl games, we have lost to a few teams like Clemson, Penn St but I still don't think those teams would be considered inferior?
Both quirky but Dale always said what he thought and you kind of knew what he was talking about even if he did have to mention Neptune, Uranus and Mother Teresa before he got to the point. Despite all that, Dale Brown was a communicator. With Les he is always careful to say nothing in so many quirky words and unusual syntax.
arkansas was favored so you are correct. perception was everyone thought they upset us. that wasnt reality. we were basically even. of course the letdown part was factored into it. its not simply who you play but when you play them.
I simply don't know if you can call another SEC team an inferior team? Maybe Vandy? When I think of losing to inferior teams I think of losing to UAB, Utah and other teams outside of the SEC in football but that is just my opinion. Obviously the lesser teams in other conferences not necessarily the good teams and programs outside of the SEC.
